Introduction
As an avid fan of many sports I am always looking to Sky Sports News to get my regular dose of sports news. Sky Sports News launched on 1st October 1998 when Sky launched their digital service. For the past nine years Sky Sports News has been the best place on TV for all the breaking news in the world of Sport.
Layout
The layout of Sky Sports News is one of the things that attracts me to the channel because you can get all the latest news, results, views and fixtures from the major sports around the world. Down the right side of the screen there are the latest tables and fixtures from all the major European football leagues and also the lesser league tables and Rugby tables. Cricket tables and fixtures are also including in this section as are all the latest motorsport tables including Moto GP, Formula One and Speedway.
Down along the bottom of the screen there are the latest news stories which are now set into sections dependant on the chosen sport. And just above is the breaking news ticker which flashes when a breaking news story comes through and then the news story is flanked by a yellow strip which slides across the bottom of the screen. And finally on a red stripe at the bottom of the screen is a results and fixtures ticker which shows the fixtures for the next few days around the world.
Presenting
The Presenters are generally very good with a very good knowledge of sports as they should have as a sports presenter. Some of the most well known Sky Sports News Presenters are Jim White, Simon Thomas, Kelly Dalglish, Georgie Thompson, Vicky Gomersall and Natalie Sawyer. These all present Sky Sports News.
There’s also two shows called Soccer Saturday and Soccer Special which are presented by Jeff Stelling where he regularly presents a Football results and commentary special with regular contributions from Pundits like Frank Mclintock, Charlie Nicholas, Phil Thompson, Matt Le Tissier, Alan Smith, Chris Kamara and Paul Merson.

The Reporting
The Sky Sports News Reporters are some of the best in the world and are regularly the latest to bring you the breaking news stories as they happen. And they are also very good with speculation about transfers and team selections in Football and the reporting team is a diverse unit with reporters for all sports.
The best reporters on Sky Sports News are Rachel Brookes who mostly reports on cricket, Pete Colley who is the one who mostly is the first with transfer stories, Ian Bolton and Nick Collins who is the chief football correspondent and is regularly the first one on the scene with all the major post match interviews and news conferences.

Where can You get Sky Sports News?
You can get Sky Sports News by getting either a sky package, it doesnt need to be the biggest package because Sky Sports News is one of the channels you get with all packages. It's also available on freeview and cable packages. For freeview viewers you can see the Sky Sports News channel on channel 83. And the channel is on 405 for all Sky viewers.
Other Sky Sports Channels
Everyday the presenters tell you about the up and coming fixtures for the day and the coming week with Sky Sports 1,2,3 and Extra being mentioned. They also have the presenters of the American sports come on and talk about the teams involved in the nights game.
Sky Text
This is a great interactive service that gives you the option to look at the latest results, fixtures and news on your chosen sport. With dedicated sections for various sports including sections for US Sports and Motorsport.
This is a particularly good text service if you don't have much time and are looking for something in particular. This text service is available even when the channel is on an advert break. There's also a great letters page for sports fans to give their opinions on the latest sporting matters whether it be a new signing or a referees decision or whatever else the writer decides to sound off about.
Competitors
For nearly ten years Sky Sports News has been the biggest channel of it's kind and there still arent any channels that have come close to passing the channel. Eurosport is the most well known but Setanta have a new news channel as part of their total package and so do Virgin Media which Kelly Dalglish has recently moved to.
Overall
If you are a fan of sports then this is a great channel for you as you are able to get the latest news at anytime of the day as Sky Sports News is on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you are a massive football fan or a bit of a darts nut there's all the latest news for you.
Overall they have the best reporters in the United Kingdom and they also have great contributions from around the world like in the United States and Australia in particular.
Summary: A great channel.
