Advantages: Professionally Presented
Disadvantages: Too focused on football.
'Sky Sports News' is broadcast on Freeview channel 83, and Sky channel 405.
The concept of the station is to broadcast live sports news as it happens - although the news which it does convey is heavily centred around football. Other sports are covered in the reporting, but don't get the same attention as soccer does.
The channel has been running since 1998, and in that time has been subject to various revamps and graphical overhauls.
In terms of it's structure, the presenter takes up the majority of the screen (as in a standard news programme) whilst a rolling text based news service scrolls along the bottom. This covers the 'latest news' and repeats the main headlines until new stories are found.
The show features frequent advert breaks - in fact usually when I want to see a particular piece of sports news, i'll turn on the tv, tune to Sky Sports News only to find the coverage half way through an ad.
It's for this reason which I generally use teletext or ceefax to keep up to date with the world of sport.
Recently Setanta Sports has started a rival channel 'Setanta Sports News'. This is an almost identical service to Sky's - although the branding is predominantly yellow. Setanta have even poached some of Sky's presenters including Kelly Dalgleish and Rachel Brooks.
Sky Sports news is a very informative service, but for me, it's centered to heavily around football. Although I like football, constantly listeneing to repeated after game manger interviews can get a little dull.
Summary: Informative Sports Channel
