Advantages: Fantastic presenters - the channel runs 24/7! Hourly updates!
Disadvantages: None - its that good!
I have been watching Sky sports News for some time now probably for around the past 7 years. SSN is currently channel 405 on sky and is also available to freeview viewers on channel 83. The channel was launched on 1st October 1998. This was the new best thing at the time and television had never seen a 24 hour broadcasting purely based on sport.
The channel has to be one of the most popular channel on SKY!
The channel is so reliable and breaking news is quickly put onto the channel via the scrolling bar at the bottom of the screen.
The layout is great. On the right hand side there is a section for Tables, results, fixtures and top scorers. This constantly rotates around showing all the information you need on where your club is and what fixture they may have next. At the bottom there is a constant ticker going accross the screen which is packed with sport info.Just above it at the bottom there is a text box which is basicly a short caption describing the story or information.
SSN is so up to date and has all the latest info. They fill the time well and various different reports are on during the day.
SSN cover just about every sport in the book from Football to darts, snooker and horse riding, they've got everything, you name it they've got it.
During weekdays the hour report is made up of four 15 minute reports which gives a run through of the latest sport news.
During matchdays, Sky Sports News is a pretty busy affair as throughout the evening from kick off you have a panel of four people who are all watching the various Sky Sports coverage of a number of matches, the panel usually consist of ex-players such as Paul Merson, Tony Cottee, Matt Le Tissier and Phil Thompson who just simply loves Liverpool. They watch the match and comment back to the main presenter on what is happening. The main presenter is Hartlepool supporter, Geoff Stelling who is superb and has just recently taken up a role with channel 4 show countdown. Soccer saturday is great and has all the scores and results at once all on one screen, you don't have to waste time on teletext, its all there in front of you.
The presenters are dressed smartly, good looking and have great voices for presenting. They very rarely get things wrong and mistakes are covered up well.
SSN is the new best thing and BBC and ITV are now so far behind with sport!
Summary: Great sporting channel! 24/7 sport news to your T.V!
