Advantages: Comprehensive coverage of all the latest sports news, especially football
Disadvantages: No news is certainly not good news
Sky Sports News is a dedicated 24hr channel, covering the latest updates and breaking news across the world of sport. Mainly featured is football and rightly so as the nation's favourite sport with rugby and cricket probably receiving about 15mins out of every hour of news, unless something major has happened in one of these said sports. Brief coverage is also given to a range of other sports like rugby league, golf, snooker, tennis and darts, among others.
For football fans SSN is absolutely ideal, especially in the days building up to a fixture where team news and predictions are rife. However, if you're not a football fan you may find it slightly frustrating that your sport is only really featured very peripherally. I mean I'm not complaining, all I'm ineterested in is the football! Expert opinions, highlights, interviews, phone-ins, polls and stats and facts cover most of what SSN offers and is perfect as either a time-filler or when they really are giving you some exclusive footage unavailable elsewhere. eg. Champions League draw or the latest unfoldings of transfer deadline day.
While SSN is a superb source of sporting updates and information, on days of little activity, stories you saw at 10 o clock in the morning are still be recycled 12 hours later at 10 o clock at night, which can make viewing a little tedious at times. However, in their defence, if their's not much going on, they can'y really make things up...or can they?! Sometimes as a result of this SSN really does cover some of the most non-newsworthy 'stories' you could ever have the misfortune to dream up. eg. Wayne Rooney went to the dentist this afternoon or David Beckham was caught picking his nose -esque drivel!
Otherwise though, SSN is very reliable and well - presented and is especially good when fixtures are being played live. For those not lucky enough to go to the football or be able to watch it on Sky Sports itself, SSN provides continuous updates from the live fixtures being played, as well as a live videprinter producing updates of scores, goalscorers, half time results and full time results etc.
At the moment, SSN is the sports news reporting king with the most reputable experts and exclusives, although one must keep an eye out for Setanta Sports News which although very new in comparison, has come along way in a very short space of time.
Overall, SSN is highly recommendable, best on Saturdays but not so useful on days of low activity, although that is the beauty of news, you just never know when something might happen so even the dullest day can be brightened up by an exciting or controversial exclusive!
Summary: Current King of sports news coverage
