Advantages: Some of the best programmes on TV

Disadvantages: Most made up of repeats

Dave is the channel that was previously called UKTV G2, but the name was changed not that long as, as one of the first in the network of UKTV channels to better reflect the content that is shown on the channel. The reason that the operators gave as the reason they decide on Dave, is because most people will know a person called Dave, and this is how the channels portrays itself, as a mates channel.

Dave can be found on Sky and Virgin Media, as well as Freeview without the need to pay for the channel.

On Dave the main staple of the shows that can be views are comedy related or mainly aimed at blokes. The programmes range from, Mock the Week and Have I Got News For You to Top Gear. What you should be getter from this short list is that the majority of the programmes that are shown on Dave originate from the BBC, although not all do, as seen by Fifth Gear which comes from Channel Five; as well as the odd programme that has been commissioned by Dave themselves.

There is also a second channel, the usual plus one channel that accompanies the main channel, which in this case was renamed from Dave +1, to Dave Ja Vu, which I was though was humorous by the heads of the channel, as it is a play on 'Déjá Vu'. This is an example of the type of channel that UKTV portray Dave as, because the tag line of Dave is, "The home of witty banter".

Overall I would say that the content is quite good, but the only problem that I have with the show is that all it mainly shows is repeats of programmes from other channels. While it may be Ok if you have not watched the programme on the original channel, it can be boring if you have seen the programme before. Although saying that, some of the programmes I do love watching again, such as Mock the Week. But I am not the only one to notice this, as presenters of the programmes on Dave such as Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear as made reference to the amount of Top Gear repeats on Dave: as well as comedians on Mock the Week have joked about it.

Overall I would recommend the channel, as it does have some of the best programmes on TV, but there is the nagging problem that the shows are just repeats. Which can become annoying and when you do tune in to watch, sometimes you could be watching the same episode that you just watched earlier in the week or just last week. But I believe that the channel is at least worth a look at.

Summary: Although the channel main shows repeats, they are repeats of the some of the best TV programmes
