Advantages: A funny, lively channel.

Disadvantages: Too many adverts

I believe Dave is best described as 'The perfect channel for blokes' It's a testosterone fueled mixture of comedy, fast cars and tough documentaries, all that's missing is a program dedicated to pole dancing...
The channel was originally launched during October 1988 under the name of 'UK Gold Classics' since then it has changed name four times, recently switching name from UKTV G2 TO Dave on the 15th October 2007. UKTV stated they chose the peculiar name "because everybody nows a bloke called Dave" This rebranding was in conjunction with the service launching on Freeview, which made the channel more accessible for the masses. There is also a sister channel, called 'Dave Ja Vu', it is identical when compared to 'Dave' but has a one hour delay just incase you miss a certain program, or want to watch it again, if your a Top Gear freak for example!
It seems the majority of the programs on Dave originate from the BBC, although some are from Channel 4, such as Full Metal Challenge. It is now apparent however, some programs are now produced for Dave specifically, for example 'Argumental' and 'Batteries Not Included" are both only viewable on Dave.
I personally love the fun, witty image Dave portrays, it even extends to the channel commentator, he frequently slips in a few jokes or puns whilst introducing a program. The ethos of the channel seems to be to create a comedy vibe of which never disappears, even through to the early hours when you get in from the pub, only to find 'Mock the Week' on, get in! On terrestrial channels such as BBC1 or Channel 4 however you are treated to 'Big Brother Live' or 'BBC News 24', oh the joy...
Top Gear has to be my personal favorite program on Dave, it is, in my opinion the perfect concept for compelling viewing. On average two different episodes are played daily which is more than enough, anymore and i would become a recluse!
Perhaps the only minor problem is the sheer amount of advertising they manage to cram into a one hour time-slot, subsequently programs are often slightly cut in order to fit them in and around the adverts, this can be annoying!

Summary: A great channel to wile away a rainy day, or to greet you home from the Pub!
