Advantages: great shows
Disadvantages: none
Dave TV has to be the best TV station there is. First up, the name is just so inventive: I love it. This TV station shows a lot of brilliant shows, and multiple episodes of them. Go here if you like Top Gear, Whose Line is it Anyway or Dragons Den, as the station is filled with them. There are adverts, which is a pain, but if you can put up with them you'll enjoy it. Personally I watch it for the following two shows:
WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY:
A comedy show based on a group of comedians giving improvised performances revolving around props, scenarios and songs. The show began in the 80s on UK TV, but now resides in the US, and is hosted by Drew Carrey, with Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery as regular participants.
Yet again the US have beaten the UK at their own game. The older, UK, episodes are very hit or miss, with the quality depending totally on the guests. When Tony Slattery is on I just about want to vomit. Yes, the two best guests were always Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery. I think they knew this, and so they took the show back to the US and re-vamped it into one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen.
The show is quick paced, with rounds well known to viewers, all of which require quick thinking and improvisation. For example, pairs will be given odd props (such as a huge inflatable square) and take it in turns to act out scenarios that incorporate the prop. Because they've been on the show for so long, Mockery and Stiles are just brilliant at this, and I often find myself falling around laughing.
Drew Carrey, as host, often takes part in one two games per show, and does a great job himself.
DRAGONS DEN:
Dragons' Den is the best show on TV! Entrepeneurs present their product to a panel of millionaires, in the aim to gain financial and business backing. The Dragons (the panel) are each rags to riches millionaires who know how to make things work. It's their job to decide whether to invest in the product, and if they do the money comes out of their own pocket. Entrepenuers have to make a presentation to the panel, who then grill them with questions before deciding whether or not to invest.
As a bit of an entrepreneur myself, I love this show for what we learn about business from the Dragons. Their comments and questions reveal to us the thinking of business, and I have learnt so much from this show. Some of the things brought before the Dragons are ridiculous, and there's a sense of delight seeing the panel tear people to pieces - especially the cocky ones.
After watching a couple of seasons, you 'become' a dragon in your own arm-chair, critiquing the product and trying to guess who will say what. I love to guess the down-side of a seemingly great product, looking proudly to my wife for acknowledgement when I'm right.
The programme is like a melting pot of ideas, and inspires creativity for those of us who like to think of inventions.
One or two of the products the Dragons have invested in have gone on to make a lot of money, including Reggae Reggae Sauce, which Levi Roots (real name Keith) brought to the den a couple of years back.
The show should appeal to those who enjoy The Apprentice, as it's very similar. It's a thinking person's programme, not so much light entertainment, so won't appeal to all.
ALL IN ALL:
DaveTV is a great channel showcasing some old favourites.
