Advantages: some good, fairly recent comedy and light entertainment shows on offer

Disadvantages: some creaky old shows and some home-grown rubbish

Initially launched in 1998 as UK Gold Classics, then renamed UK Gold 2, then renamed UKTV G2 before finally being relaunched under its current moniker, channel Dave shows reruns of popular comedy and light entertainment shows. These are at least reasonably fresh, (by which I mean averaging a mere 3-5 years old) with the channel's current roster boasting' Dragons' Den', satirical news quiz, sketch show 'That Mitchell and Webb Look', Ray Mears' 'Extreme Survival', standup comedy-showcase 'Live at the Appollo' recent episodes of both Fifth Gear and Top Gear and the intelligent and entertaining general knowledge show 'QI' hosted by Stephen Fry.

There is also some filler however, such as ancient repeats of improvised comedy show 'Whose Line Is It Anyway', and there have also been some attempts by Dave at producing their own home-grown comedy shows, such as some godawful comedy panel show hosted by a puppet that was pulled from the airwaves within a matter of weeks. Then there was
the recent execrable final Red Dwarf "special"; a horrendous mess that was exclusive to Dave, prompting the channel to make up the claim that the show was named after Red Dwarf central protagonist Dave Lister when in fact it was made in reference to Trigger from Only Fools and Horses' penchant for greeting Rodney with "Alright Dave".

In summary then, whilst nothing remarkable Dave generally provides a decent mix of recent(ish) comedy shows and given the appalling quality of television in general these days this is not something to be sniffed at.

Summary: A decent channel boasting some good comedy repeats

I've always been a bit puzzled by the repeats of Have I Got News for You - I like watching new episodes but it's not really something I'd watch several year old episodes of.
