In 2000, the channel launched on ONdigital, using capacity from ONrequest 2 (later ITV Select 2), and broadcast 6am-12pm weekdays, and 6am-10am weekends, free to air on channel 44. Its hours were extended in January 2002 to be broadcast from 6am-6pm daily. However, after the fall of ITV Digital, TV Travel Shop made a deal with multiplex operator, SDN, to carry the channel 24 hours a day using the newly freed up capacity. It moved to channel 17 at the launch of Freeview.

This must be one of the tackiest channels you can get on cable! Its so bad you cant help but watch it! The presenters are just so wooden they mingle nicely in with the tacky sets! the sets themselves look as if they are going to collapse at any second! The filming is naff! The presenters are just hopeless i wouldnt dream of buying one of thier holidays! The way the so called bargain holidays are presented ie poor pics or a tacky 70's style video just makes you wonder how on earth do they afford to keep the channel on air! watch it if you want a laff! ...  Read the complete review

The Travel Channel is a 24-hour channel, through the morning there is Travel Direct, a bit like the TV TRAVEL SHOP, where the Travel Channel sells holidays. ...  Read the complete review
