Advantages: no adverts

Disadvantages: have to pay for it

TV licence is required to watch TV in the UK. Currently fee for the licence is:

£139.50 for colour
£47.00 for black and white

One licence is required for all household unless multiple tenancies agreements exist in which case multiple licences are required.

On the face of it, this fee is not excessive. Sky charges £16 a month = £192 a year.

Look at it in detail and you will wonder what the point of TV licence is. Programs shown on BBC are slightly better than other channels but the network doesn't require special status.

The main argument for the licence is independence of the corporation and no adverts.

The independence is a myth. Government controls are in place for the channel to form certain opinion on issues.

We are all used to advertising so it makes no difference to me, if advertising was allowed on the channel. I would accept it just as I do when I am watching programs on other channels.

Time has come for the licence to be abolished. BBC will be able to fund itself by advertising and selling its content to world markets.

I can find many places to spend my £139.50. In the face of recession and food prices jumping to all time high. I can ill afford to pay for a licence.

Summary: see no point keep paying
