Advantages: nil
Disadvantages: A complete rip off
What do the BBC think they are playing at and why has no one ever taken them to the Monolopies Commision. They make you pay for something which I am sure everyone will agree is sub-standard and quite frankly a rip-off. The rise of satelite and Cable TV has shown that if the choice is given the people will take it, but the BBC don't give you a choice they fine you if you have the capability to recieve their channel and do not buy a licence. Given the choice how many of us would gladly pay for a licence because we valued the channel. No not many I bet. Give us freedom of choice.

- 16/06/01 Look - it is just another form of taxation. Stop the licence and the funds will only have to be extracted by another means...
Nothing in life is as certain as death and taxes ....
I any case I am with MichaelR on this.
But I disagree with his sentiment below. It is a good FIRST opinion. Welcome indeed to the asylum ! |

W ell, no. I wouldn't and nor would a lot of other people.
The standard of programming is very high for the most part, and the licence fee represents excellent value for money when you consider what you are getting (The two main TV channels, digital channels, national and regional radio stations, internet services...)
Any way, I'm not going to repeat my op all over. It goes without saying that I completely disagree, but I have given you an SU because I felt your argument was weak and poorly put across. Sorry. |

- 16/06/01 it's disgusting isn't it. Money for old rope as my mom would say. I mean, look at the quality of Saturday night TV on BBC1 - used to be the highlight of the week 'when I was young'! Absolute drivel now. I really resent paying for such rubbish. |
