Advantages: not a bad channel overall
Disadvantages: forced to pay even if yu don't want to watch!
This week I noted down how many hours I spent watching each seperate channel. I won't bore you with the gory details but the outcome was Central came out on top, then Channel 4, then BBC 1, and lastly BBC 2 ( I can't get channel 5 incidentally!!). As far as I'm concerned the results speak for themselves! I'm not alone. Every week I check out the listings in my TV magazine. And every week Central seem to come out on top followed by BBC 1. The way the BBC justifys it's licensing procedure is by telling us that it produces vastly superior programmes but if that's the case then how come we are all watching the other side???? The facts are the BBC isn't producing vastly superior programmes. The facts are the BBC is using the money it rakes in from Pensioners and Students to line the Chairman's pockets and send overpaid presenters on nice foreign holidays. Well if Central can fund itself through advertising then I think the BBC should as well. Does advertising really bother anyone that much? As far as I can see the British public love adverts! after all we regularly churn them out on entertainment shows like Tarrent on TV! As far as I'm concerned the adverts afford the perfect opportunity to stick the kettle on and go to the toilet! The License fee is unfair because it is forced upon you. Surely it's about time people were given the choice over whether they want to receive this channel - the BBC is the only pay to view channel that doesn't give you the chance to say no!

- 13/07/00 You watch ITV the most??? Amazing, I didn't beleive that was possible!!
I think the license fee is incredible value for money although admittedly C4 comes high on my list of most watched channels.
Not only does the license fee pay for quality public service programs on the BBC (don't forget radio) it also keeps the standards of the commercial channels up. If you believe the other channels would be as good without the BBC you're deluding yourself.
Admittedly the BBC produces a lot of dross (did I hear anyone say Jim Davidson?) but hopefully this sort of stuff will be on the wane again.
Cheers,

- 11/07/00 I always thought the licence was for the television, but the British had to broadcast something on it.
Guess it's an old tax and another reason to kick out the Government. |
