Advantages: £108 a year is sod all in comparison to almost anything else, I probably spend more on toilet roll

Disadvantages: They insit on showing Eastenders

I’ve read some of the reviews here and don’t agree with most of them. To me it is similar to the question of tax on petrol (which I’ve also had my two peneth over). Obviously, I don’t want to pay my TV licence, but I appreciate that I have to. Consider for a moment the average person who watches say 4 hours of telie a day (and many will watch far more than this). It works out as around 7 pence an hour (that obviously doesn’t account for you actually being able to watch it for 24 hours a day). That’s about the same cost as a gas fire on a medium setting.

For many people TV is their major entertainment (this is something that does appal me however). It does not bare comparison to any of the other more usual forms of entertainment, such as going to the pub, which is likely to cost several pounds an hour, going to the cinema or even a simple drive.

I really dread the day when we have to pay for each and every morsel that we consume, whether it is the written word, a picture, some television of whatever, because (as pay-per-view tv demonstrates) it always cost many times more.

As for adverts, the only reason that sky put them only at the beginning of movies and not during them is because they are already charging you £10 per month per movie channel.

You could always read a book.
