Premium Review TV Licence: This is one licence I don't have (298 words)
by - written on 28/10/09 (Very useful, 25 readings)
Rating:

When my parents moved out, I had a bill through the door demanding something like £150 for the 'privilege' of watching TV; I was shocked! Yes, a TV licence will now set you back over £10 a month, and I immediately de-tuned my TV and opted out of one of the most over-priced things in the world. Some people will disagree with this, but you ARE ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Taxed to watch tv (296 words)
by - written on 11/10/09 (Very useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

I won't pull any punches with my views on tv licenses, as I think they are a scandalous extortionate tax. So why do we pay a tv licence? we pay on an annual basis a sum of over 100.00 not for the ownership of a television but the privilege of watching television. However this fee funds the BBC I am comfortable about this for three reasons, firstly ...  Read the complete review

A Colour TV License is a legal requirement to watch a colour television in the United Kingdom, it must be purchased prior to use and if you are found to be watching television without one you are in line for a big fine. Cost - £142.50 per year. Unless your over 75 when its free. Also if you are blind or have visual impairment you can ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Licence To Frill? (558 words)
by - written on 05/08/09 (Very useful, 117 readings)
Rating:

A colour TV licence costs £142.50 this year. A black and white licence costs significantly less. A licence can be bought in a number of ways - a one-off cost which can be paid by post or on-line, direct debit with the cost spread over a year and monthly payments. The licence can be issued by post or by e mail. Once bought, you are issued with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review TV Licence: TV licence gives us a channel that we all contribute to (393 words)
by - written on 14/07/09 (Very useful, 17 readings)
Rating:

In my experience, the TV licence has been an excellent 'product' even if it is really a veil for another tax. First and foremost, the positives are that students can claim back TV licence fees (even if they wrongly have to pay for it in the first place) and people over 75 are entitled to a free TV licence. I would not like to see the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review BBC - A Licence to Thrill (378 words)
by - written on 19/06/09 (Very useful, 64 readings)

To mention the words 'TV licence' in any crowded gathering is not unlike lighting the touchpaper to a particularly explosive firework. Typical responses include "what a waste of money", "there's never anything worth watching" and "why not make their money from adverts?". There's no getting away from the ...  Read the complete review

TV License is something we all have to pay out each year to the BBC. The price has just gone up again and each year it does so. Why do we pay a TV license for? Just to watch TV! This is just one of the most stupidest rules they have going. We are paying them 140 pounds now for a TV License each year. Why can they not charge for ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Please scrap this out-dated concept (177 words)
by - written on 29/05/09 (Useful, 20 readings)
Rating:

I don't like having to pay for a TV licence, I think it's an out-dated practice that should be scrapped. My £140+ per year goes to the BBC who (to be fair) produce the best programmes out of the 5 terrestrial channels, but they're not a patch on what's on Sky. I only ever watch the BBC for Match of the Day, Have I Got News ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review TV Licence: The BBC's funding and the whole in our pockets... (481 words)
by - written on 25/03/09 (Very useful, 92 readings)
Rating:

TV licensing has been around for years, of which 75% of the fees go towards the UK's biggest independent public broadcaster; the BBC. Fees at April 2008 were £139.50 and £47.00 for colour and black and white TV's respectively. This seems a lot, however, the fees cover households, so no matter how many TV's are in your house, they are all covered ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Time To Scrap It And Fund The BBC Through Income Tax (313 words)
by - written on 17/03/09 (Very useful, 87 readings)
Rating:

The Television Licence fee is levied by the government in order to help fund the British Broadcasting Corporation's television, radio and Internet channels. It currently costs £139.50 per year to purchase or £47 if you are genuinely only watching a Black & White television set. The charge is per household and not per television set ...  Read the complete review

A TV License is the bain of everyones life. Why do we have to pay to watch TV, we have alreay paid for our TV, but it is a legal requirement to TV, and the money you pay if terrible. At £140 for a colour TV, it works out at around £12 a month, but in credit crunch, you could save a lot. I suppose the only good thing about the TV license ...  Read the complete review

Well, this is a topic which you're either for or against and is one of them debates which will always be discussed.... TV Licence: BBC - Con or not? (1072 words)
by Martin - written on 14/09/08

Some of the reviewers here seem to have the wrong idea about the TV Licence, so I thought a more objective review might be both appropriate and useful. The Communications Act 2003 makes it an offence to install or use a television receiver to watch or record any television programmes as they are being shown on television without a valid ...  Read the complete review

What is the TV Licence? In the UK, every household that has a TV must pay a TV licence. There are two versions, a black and white TV Licence (for B&W TVs – Does anyone still own one?) and a colour TV Licence. It is interesting to point out that even if you have a PC with a broadcast card, then you still need a TV licence. A colour ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review TV Licence - WHY? (326 words)
by - written on 02/05/06 (Useful, 103 readings)
Rating:

I always thought a licence should be something a person needs if he or she is operating or selling something that has the potential to harm others. For example, there are very good reasons why someone should need a licence to drive a car or sell alcohol. Why then, do we need a licence to watch TV? It does nothing to harm others and we ...  Read the complete review

For many years, the faithful BBC has brought us quality TV and radio programmes on a number of stations. What's more, there are no adverts and now we can even access more from the website. For all this, we pay a fee of £100 per year (less then £2 per week). Personally, I think that the TV license is not only good value and a fair price ...  Read the complete review

How I agree with the review. It reminds me of a story heard a while ago..... Tv detector vans patroll around schools as the kids leave off. Kids run home and tell mum ( this is a ploy to cause panic). Dad sees the detector van whilst out and about and tells the official, 'If you call at my home tell my wife I left the tv licence in the ...  Read the complete review
