TV3 has been around since 1998 and quite frankly I ask whats the point of it? The station is the third Irish national television station behind rte and tg4. It runs as an alternative to rte, the main Irish broadcaster. Its most viewed programmes are coronation street and its news bulletins which run at the times of five thirty and six thirty. These bulletins are strategically placed around the main national news at six o’clock on rte one. It’s the same news repeated. Id swear that tv3 listen to sky news to get there news, half the time. An introduction: TV3 was given the go-ahead to air on September 1998 when An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern officially threw the switch.It would initially provide a mix of news, current affairs and an alternative programming schedule. Now look at why it is annihilating standard terrestrial channels when it comes to programmes, mainly cult... First of all, sci-fi programmes like Roswell and Buffy are treated as "dramas" meaning they get the primetime slots of 8pm,are treated as very important shows (heavily promoted to the degree that they get promoted on national and local radio(!)).
