Advantages: You dont have to pay for it.
Disadvantages: To many to list.
UK GOLD is like every other channel on SKY. Constant repeats and endless advertisements.
Most programmes have been aired dozens and dozens of times and even more so with GOLD +1 and GOLD2.
I contacted SKY and asked why the same programmes are repeated over and over through the year with some episodes being aired 50 , 60 times or more and that I am still seeing the same programmes that I was watching more that 3 years ago. I was told that this was to ensure that every subscriber has the chance to see every programme. They also said that they have no plans to stop showing repeats.
SKY claim to have no control over the programmes on other channels but isn't it funny how every single channel on SKY has the same repeat pattern. Even BBC3 and the news Channels.
We wouldn't buy a magazine with every page repeated at least 3 times and then buy the same issue again a couple of months later so why do we accept this with SKY TV.
Did you know that there are more new programmes on BBC1 and BBC2 in one day than there are on every SKY channel put together. There is also more advertising per channel than terrestrial tv. And we pay a subsciption charge for the pleasure. And remember, all the programmes that are shown have already been aired on terrestrial tv anyway.
I for one will be terminating my subscription as I have no desire to be ripped of any longer.

- 16/04/03 I love UK gold. All those old episodes of The Bill, Quantum Leap, Doctors and Casualty - wonderful! As grinchgirl said, the whole point of UK gold is to repeat old shows. I like to revisit the programmes I used to watch years ago, watch programmes I missed first time around, and have a good laugh at the bad fashions/hairstyles etc!
I've got Sky AND cable tv, and I'd like to get rid of the shopping channels, the news channels, the adult channels and the travel channels, but obviously I can't. I guess the point of Sky or cable is that there's something for everyone - was there really nothing you liked on the other 250 or so other channels?

The whole point of UK Gold is to repeat old shows, and of course Sky don't control the output of any channels other than those branded as Sky! |
