Advantages: loads of great ideas
Disadvantages: may turn you into a diy junkie
Although I have had Sky for nearly 2 years this is one of the channels that until recently I had not watched. My new Partner loves this channel, watching it for ideas on décor and decorating. To be honest I have become a bit of an addict as well. Most of the programmes that we watch tend to be “changing room” type programmes. Not just made in the UK but also USA, Australia and New Zealand versions. Some of these can be quite amusing; the overseas tastes can be quite different. Strange colour schemes and some very strange ideas for home furnishings. On the whole these programmes are very good for giving the DIY decorators ideas and schemes that may enhance their own homes. To have these programmes all on one channel is great as often you can find yourself watching three thirty minute programmes back to back. On the whole most of the ideas will not be to your personal taste, but if you pick up the odd hint or tip from watching programmes such as these then it will have been worth the time spent having a cuppa watching the TV ;). As well as decorating type programmes you also get gardening and cooking programmes, on a personal note neither of these appeal to me, gardening gives me back ache and if I follow the recipes then I get gut ache. But I can see the appeal, again “ideas and inspiration” are the watchwords. For people who want to gain ideas on all things homely then this really is the channel for you. I would suggest watching more than one programme though; take in a few ideas before transferring them into a fully-fledged plan for your house.

- 18/10/01 I watch all DIY and most gardening type programs as I tend to get a lot of work involving both! |

- 01/10/01 To be honest this has always seemed like the anti-style channel to me, but these kinds of programmes are always entertaining regardless (if only for the horrified looks on the participants' faces when their heirloom has been turned into a sequined lime-green garden chair). Maybe I'm just a sadist. |

- 01/10/01 I can't stand these types of program myself, they just always seem boring and pointless to me. |
