VH-1Newest Review: ... of the older Red Hot Chilli Pepper's songs along side the brand new Fun Loving Criminal song and then some Papa Roach and some new bands that I had never heard before. Not a single boy bland in te mix. Of course you have to pay for this and at 3am they went from the wonderful REM directly to the very much less wonderful Mariah Carey. A bit of a shock to the musical system. So, this is ... more More MTV TV channels

I don't know what has happened to VH1 over the past week or so but suddenly they have discovered that there is a whole audience of rock and indie fans out there that aren't being catered for in the non digital music television market. I was suprised and pleased when we tuned in around midnight and discovered this new program called Flipside. I tend to do a lot of work over night at my computer ( the joy of being a student) so I have figured out that the show goes on till about 3am. Durring this space of time they are playing both new and old indie and rock. Last night they played some of the older Red Hot Chilli Pepper's songs along side the brand new ... VH1 is a great music channel. It shows a lot of older songs from the 60s, 70s, and more prominantly, the 80s and 90s. It also shows some recent chart songs, but tends to have a few particular favourites, which at the moment seem to be "Overload" by the Sugababes and "Black Coffee" by All Saints, which are great tracks so I don't mind them being on a lot. There are all sorts of different programmes on it ranging from straight song/video shows in which they just play a mixture of songs back-to-back ("Non-Stop Video Hits" and "Solid Gold Hits") to excellent documentaries. These documentaries cover major stars such as ... Read the complete review

VH1 as a music channel is tosh, compared with MTV et al.But, it does have 2 or 3 of the best music programmes running on it. The first is 'Behind the music' a series of 1 hour specials on famous artists charting their rise to fame and where they are now, including video/news clips, interviews and narration. These programmes are great if you are interested in the artist/band, you'll find out allsorts that you never knew before. Ones to watch out for are 'Fleetwood Mac', 'Def Leppard' and 'Depeche Mode' which are really eye-opening. The second programme is VH1 Music Years, presented by Paul King which plays videos and ... Since I have had Digital Television I have been able to watch VH1 Classic. This channel offers a blend of popular music videos from the last 30 odd years. Slade, Bruce Springsteen, Abba, Bill Haley, Madonna to name but a few. Over the last few months I have noticed that the videos that they play have widened in choice, offering an even larger blend than they previously had. This is a very interesting channel to watch, especially good if you have a few friends round, as you can watch and pass comment without getting stuck into watching the tv. A game we often play is guess the song and artist, and get it before the song is named on the screen. All in all ... Read the complete review
