Advantages: Behind the music, Video Years
Disadvantages: too much Celine Dion, Phil Collins etc....
VH1 as a music channel is tosh, compared with MTV et al.But, it does have 2 or 3 of the best music programmes running on it. The first is 'Behind the music' a series of 1 hour specials on famous artists charting their rise to fame and where they are now, including video/news clips, interviews and narration. These programmes are great if you are interested in the artist/band, you'll find out allsorts that you never knew before. Ones to watch out for are 'Fleetwood Mac', 'Def Leppard' and 'Depeche Mode' which are really eye-opening. The second programme is VH1 Music Years, presented by Paul King which plays videos and news clips from a particular year, the best ones are the from the 1980's. Last night was 1987 and had videos of "Pump up the volume" by MARRS, "I still haven't found...." by U2. There's not too much commentary in it - they mostly let the videos play and the news reel scrolls along the bottom of the screen. The third is a mtter of taste, 'The Friday Rock Show', presented by Tommy Vance he has a featured artist each week and plays a lot of 80's/90's rock/heavy metal music. Having spent my teen years headbanging this programme appeals to me but might not appeal to you. It is also on pretty late on a Friday Night - so turn it on next time you get in from the pub.
