Advantages: Miss an episode it doesn't matter

Disadvantages: Highly addictive

Ok - I am not getting married, have never been married, not planning to get married and I don't like going to weddings either. For me, I understand the desire to share with close friends and family the importance of your relationship but I would like that to be done in private.

Therefore when I stumbled across this channel on one of the rare occasions The Other Half allows me access to the SKY remote I was hooked.

Initially my interest was because I could should how much more intelligent and at ease with myself that I didn't frighten everyone by turning into a Bridezilla - the best show on Wedding TV in my humble opinion!

After watching a couple of episodes of people spending huge amounts of money on cake - yes, a cake can cost more than the Vicar or the dress and it is very important as it is usually the first thing that guests see when they walk into the Reception, hence the requirement to be 54 storeys tall. See, I didn't know the importance of cake tiers but now I do thanks to the wonder of Wedding TV.

Bridezilla is the term that refers to a woman planning her wedding who becomes completely obsessed, domineering and uncontrollable if she does not get what she wants for her special day. An entire show devoted to these women makes fascinating viewing! Some of them appear to be fine and have obviously been planning this day since they got their first Barbie doll (Am I allowed to refer to Barbie now she has been demonised?) and they just want to make it a special day and not look fat in the photographs. I am not being unkind; I too do not want to look fat in somebody's wedding photographs. Yet these women know the finite details and they will settle for nothing less.

Does the groom get a look into the world of Bridezilla on the great day? Not really, although he is asked for his opinion over the cake, Bridezilla has already chosen her joyous occasion celebration tower of confection and his opinion is just background noise. If she wants to mocha chocca mandarin confectionary with a strawberry mousse layer then she shall have it!

The other show is Happy Ever After which allows couples to reminisce about their special day and talk about things like how they prepared, what things cost and at the end of it did they make or break their budget. You can already see that money is the mot important thing when planning a wedding. There has yet to be a show that provides a "Good Life" version of getting married where homemade elderflower champagne is served and hessian sacks double as chair covers.

I may be coming across as being cynical however I do seriously enjoy watching these shows and it is nice to see at the end of it a loving couple that hopefully will stay together for better or for worse - that's another show that also screens on Wedding TV however I have yet to view it.

If Wedding TV can turn a hardened cynic like myself into somebody who actually cheers (yes cheers!) when they get their wedding sorted then it can probably appeal to anybody out there. And if you remain cynical you can also enjoy watching people hock their selves into ridiculous amounts of debt for that one day.
