Advantages: Good to watch if nothing else is on tv
Disadvantages: Sometimes not the best celebrities.. but somehow it works!
I must admit, I think that I am in the minority these days with my love of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here. It doesn't seem to as popular as it was in it's earlier days, probably due to the fact that the format of the show has pretty much stayed the same throughout the series. It's a reality tv show aired on ITV 1. Celebrities live in the jungle for 3 weeks with the bare minimum, surviving on food won in the daily bush tucker trials. I have followed I'm a celebrity all bar the first series, and think the two people that make the show work as well as is does is Ant and Dec.
Bushtucker trials and the chest hunt fill the days for the jungle camp mates. The show airs this and the other ways in which they entertain themselves during the day.
Winners of the show: 2002 - Tony Blackburn, 2003 - Phil Tufnell, 2004 - Kerry Katona, 2004 - Joe Pasquale, 2005 - Carol Thatcher, 2006 - Matt Willis, 2007 - Christopher Biggins and our new reigning King of the Jungle for 2008 Joe Swash.
2008 Series:
In this series, the celebrities forced together in the jungle have been:
Brian Paddock: The 50 year old ex-commissioner for the Met Police was a character that will mainly be remembered in this series for washing himself totally butt naked in the water without a care in the world. He was a very likeable chap in the jungle although I think he lasted slightly longer than anyone thought that he would.
Carly Zucker: Very pretty personal trainer and girlfriend of Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole was probably the most dull person in the jungle this year. When thinking about what he highlights were, none really stand out for me. She was only ever seen slagging off David and Timmy with Dani and Nicola.
Dani Behr: Famous for previously dating Ryan Giggs and being a tv presenter. Similar to Carly, Dani was another quite dull celebrity in the jungle. I thought, at the beginning of the series she came across as a fairly pleasant person, however as the program continued, arguments with various other celebs other the cooking and jobs around camp made her come across as a bit of a sulk when she didn't get her own way.
David Van Day: Where do you start with DVD's journey in the jungle! Ex member of the pop group Dollar, for me was the most annoying celebrity. I could not stand the guy, but looking back, if he hadn't been in it, it would not have been in the slightest bit at entertaining. Every year, a celeb decides to come up with a random song and this year it's the supposed Christmas hit Biff Baff Boff. When he attempts to make a video with Joe producing, I have not laugh so much in a long time. My favourite part of the 2008 series! He is a complete fool
Esther Rantzen: Definitely her most memorable was her over-reaction at the small fire in camp. I laughed so much at this. She started going on about how she had made documentaries about the danger of fires. I mean, come on, it was tiny! She was this years mother hen and very sweet with it.
George Takei: If I am going to remember anything about gorgeous George it will be his adorable laugh. Finishing third in the series, the ex star trekker was a firm favourite with the fans of the show. I don't think he got enough airtime personally, but his relationship with Joe was so sweet to watch. It was like in the space of three weeks, they'd grown to be the best of friends.
Joe Swash: I 100% agree with the public that Joe deserves to be king of the jungle. Is he not the most adorable guy. So funny. He got on well with every single other camp mate in the jungle. My favourite Joe moment was watching him teach George the "Ollie Ollie Ollie" song. Lets hope that I'm A Celebrity gets his career going again and we see him back in Eastenders as Mickey soon!
Martina Navratilova: I'm not really a big follower of tennis, so I didn't know that much about Martina prior to her going into the jungle. And in the space of three, weeks I really have grown to like her. She adjusted so well to the conditions of the camp and got along with almost all of the other celebrities. My favourites moment of Martina in the jungle are celebrity chest with David where she fired tennis balls at a target and he got totally soaked with the teacup helmet to fill up a gage with water. I was laughing so much at this.
Nicola McLean: Glamour girl Nicola was the one to bring drama and arguments to this years show. As far as she was concerned, David could do absolutely no right. And although I did agree, I think she went to totally wrong way about telling him. Arguments were guaranteed when the two of the were in the same vicinity. I thought she was particularly funny when she went into the bush telegraph to celebrate her boobs first birthday. Have you ever heard anything like it? I think not.
Robert Kilroy-Silk: I had poor expectations of Kilroy from what the press had written about him prior to his entry in the jungle. However, the chat show host won me other with his kindness to the other campers. The live bush tucker trial had to be the highlight of his stay. Although, I really did think he was going to whack Timmy one, he kept his cool to get all the stars and everybody dinner for that night. Go Kilroy!
Simon Webbe: What a kind man. Such a sweet guy. I loved Blue in their day, so seeing that Simon was going into the jungle, I thought woohoo! A nice bit of eye candy. He was fairly quiet in the jungle, flying under the radar until the last week really.
Timmy Mallett: Like David, Timmy came into the camp late after spending his first night in a cage. He was another, totally nutty and annoying campmate. His stupid random noises absolutely drove me insane. I could not in a million years have been in the jungle with him for 24 hours a day!
Overall, I'd recommend this mainly to anyone who doesn't really have anything else to watch on telly. As much as I like the show, I can't really narrow it down to a certain audience.
Summary: Not something for everyone.. but usually quite watchable!

- 06/12/08 It was agood line up but the show didnt test them. The winner was the guy they werent voting out rather than voting in. Bascially it was two Americna homosexuals versus an Englishman, no contest for the English voting demnographic. Get A MUlsim cleric in there, maybe a Jewish hothead and an ex IRA killer. Make it serious!! |
