"16 & Pregnant" is a TV on MTV following the stories of teenagers who fit the title of the show. While having a first child is a big learning curve for anyone, these girls find themselves having to grow up fast. During each 1 hour programme, cameras follow a new soon to be mum each week as they prepare for the new addition to their family. While I have branded this as my favourite trashy TV in the headline of the review, I feel that the show itself is actually very informative for young people. The stars of the programme regularly have to struggle with issues such as housing, finding a source of income to support their child, keeping up with school work and handling their relationship with their other half. I think it would be a great resource to show in schools, seeing their struggles has given me a lot more respect for why it is considered better to wait to start a family than any lecture at school. These one hour documentaries are the perfect blend of entertainment and education, giving a neat insight into a young mum's life without becoming too lengthy or requiring a commitment to watching the whole series. For 4 of the teenagers featured in each series, their journey is continued in spinoff series Teen Mom, where we see their trials and tribulations continue and also get to know the personality of their child as they grow older. Overall I think this is a great series that I keep on watching again and again. Some high quality trashy TV with a moral.
The show 16 and pregnant is something I came across a few weeks back on MTV. To be honest I had never heard of the show before and after watching it for a few minutes I ended up sticking through it till the end and I occasionally watch it now. 16 and pregnant is an American show that is based around teenagers from all different backgrounds who are all placed in a situation of finding out that they are pregnant at 16 years old. The show is on for an hour at a time and doesn't contain any hosts it basically tells you a different story each episode coming directly from the mouth of a 16 year old girl who has found herself pregnant. The show begins with the girls voice telling you a little bit about herself like her hobbies and her previous aspects for the future, it explains her living arrangements and her current partner and goes on to explain that she has accidentally became pregnant. The show follows the teen couple and their families updating every few months of the pregnancy and keeps you in check with doctors appointments and the general ways that the teens are coping with the news and effects that the pregnancy has on them and their families. The show follows right to the delivery room where an acceptable viewing can be seen of the pain and physiological effects a birth can have on a person and the people around them. The middle of the show consists of life after the birth and it follows the teens for the first few months of the baby's life to see how the parents are coping with having a new addition that makes things difficult to do that they could before. It discusses financial hardships in finding general items such as nappies and milk that the baby needs to finding a place for the young couple to live. Some couples manage well considering their youth and others seem to fall at the first hurdle where the boys just can't cope with being a father. This show is interesting and I think it's a great idea especially for teenagers to watch as it highlights the truth behind younger kids getting pregnant and not taking into account the difficulties and the financial worries that comes with the responsibility of a baby.
Ive recently got in to this programme as i love these series that MTV releases. 16 and pregnant is an American series that follows American teenagers who are 16 and pregnant it shows how they come to terms with the pregnancy and how they deal with the situation. I watched the first Series which showed how couples deal with the pregnancy and when the babies are born. All the couples were different some moved in to together and how they argued about rising their child. some of the teen moms went back to high school to finish school and there parents helped out a lot. One couple even chose to put their baby up for adoption which i thought was a really brave and mature decision to make they just knew they weren't ready to become parents. The second series which Ive just watched as a different take to the first as it shows how the couples struggle to make their relationships work, mainly because the father refuses to take responsibility of their child. I really enjoyed this show as it shows what the couples really went through and how they struggle. the second series I definitely make young girls reconsider when thinking they want a baby so young as some of the young girls really struggle with their babies on their own. I loved this show and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys MTV shows and want to see how hard raising a child can be. thank you for reading my review
