Advantages: Fast-paced, hugely engaging and entertaining

Disadvantages: HUGELY addictive

Oh my goodness! 24 should come with some sort of warning about how addictive it is! I've only just discovered 24 and haven't been able to stop watching it. Due to the kindness of friends I've been able to secure DVD box sets for the last 6 seasons and I reckon this must be one of the best ways to watch it.

24 is a fast-paced thriller set in the fictional Counter-Terrorist Unit of LA, following Agent Jack Bauer as he fights to stay one step ahead of various terrorist plots (all conveniently organised in and around LA!) In order to keep the pace up for 24 hour-long (42 mins excluding ads) episodes there are numerous main plot twists and parallel sub-plots. At times it can be hard to keep up! Maintaining the addiction are the cliff-hangers which end each episode - and the fact that favourite cast members from earlier seasons often make a surprising reappearance.

Bauer is a great character and definitely the corner-stone of the show. Incredibly brave, quick-thinking and loyal to a fault and although quite clearly a metaphor for America as a whole, his human-ness makes him instantly likeable.

If you haven't watched this yet, grab a box set - I can't imagine the agony of waiting week by week for the next episode!

Summary: An exciting thriller that never fails to disappoint
