Advantages: humour, witty, hilarious scenes
Disadvantages: Can be far fetched.
2 point 4 Children never was the best sitcom in the world. But i quite enjoyed it. It was first shown way back in 1991 on BBC1 and ended in 1991, and ran for 8 series. It was written by Andrew Marshall. Starring Gary Olsen, Belinda Lang, Claire Buckfield, John Pickard, Julia Hills.
This show was set in Chiswick in Londonand is based around a very abnormal family. I always watch this show when it's repeated on UK GOLD. They are lots of hilarious yet very childish scenes in this programme. Looking back you actually cringed at how far fetched some of it is, yet it's still funny.
CAST
Ben Porter- the dad, played lovely by Gary Olsen is a plummer. He is often very childish, silly, makes stupid mistakes and isn't overall the sharpest knife in the box. But has the heart of gold.
Bill Porter - is the mum, played by Belinda Lang. Thank god that family has her. She's the woman that holds the whole family together, she's sensible, witty and quite clever at times. She does all the housework, cooking, cleaning, hoovering. Whilst also running a catering buisness with friend Rona.
Jenny Porter, daugher is played by Claire Buckfield. Jenny is a typical teenage girl, loves the boys, her music, make-up and is very embarrassed by her parents. Jenny is shown in one episode having very low self esteem. Having problems with her weight and looks and stops eating.
David Porter, the son - played by John Pickard. David is a very strange mischievous young boy. He enjoys winding his older sister Jenny up, watching serious horror films, Football, video games and music. He loves played weird pranks on the family.
Rona is the next door neighbour played fanastically by Julia Hills. Rona is Bill's good friend and also runs the catering buisness with her. She's a fully fledged man eater. Rona and Bill often get themselves in very funny situations. There's one episode at Rona's house where they both think theres a snake in the house and they stay in he same position for hours thinking it will go anyway, the play music for it,. It's absolutely hilarious. I think if i remember correctly it turns out to be a plant.
There are lots of memorable moments in this programme, my all time favourite episode is where the Porter family go on holiday to Florida and they hear on the radio there is a hurricane heading to their, they changed direction and to go Miami were the hurricane coincidently is following them. They decide to stay in and avoid it and barracade themselves in the toilet. They all sit together on the floor wrapped in a blanket and this is where David's sadistic true colours shine through, he asks his sister to hold his hand under the cover and later turns out shes holding a fake hand. They stay in all night and eventually they start hearing loud windy noises and get scared, after enduring this for a further few hours, Ben decides to go out side the room and see for himself, the family try stopping him but he goes anyway and is greeted by a vacuum. The hurricane and changed directions the night before. So funny.
I would reccomend this programme. It's light hearted humour, very silly and the script can be childish at times but can be hilarious to view.
Summary: abnormal family.
