£rd Rock from the sun finally confirmed in my mind that Americans can't make decent TV comedies, I remember being told about this brilliant TV show andhow it was the funniest show on TV. So I thought I'd watch a show and was presented with the worst cliche driven rubbish I've ever watched, the classic American nuclear family given a twist as they are aliens and therefore can take anything presented to them and poke fun at the American way of life. I am glad that this show still gets screened, it is one of my favourite comedy shows, even if the laughs in the studio do seem a little fake at times. The show centres around a family who move to Earth (from another planet) and try their best to fit in with everyday life. It focuses principally on the lead character Dick (John Lithgow) who is a teacher at a school/college. The aliens try and avoid detection and often go to ridiculous lengths not to give anything away. I missed this when it first came out and I have been very grateful to paramount comedy for showing the re runs. This is a very funny comedy that follows a group of aliens that have taken human forms.Throughout the series the group undertake various jobs and tasks in an effort to blend in with normal humans so that they can study us up close.John Lithgow plays the part of Dick solomon the alien commander and is brillant in his role.He takes a job in the local college as a physics professor and sets out to woo a fellow professor with harlious results. 3rd Rock from the Sun is an American TV comedy series that I really enjoyed just for the sheer siliness of the whole thing, it has some excellent comedy lines in it which were very funny indeed and some of the plots were quite simple but very effective.
