Advantages: Looks great on TV
Disadvantages: Looks like a bodge job close up.
60 minute makeover is the latest in a long line of "home improvement" shows that has evolved since the 90s.
It follows the basic premise of this type of show, but the difference is that the owner is unsuspecting and apparently has no idea that their house is being "done up".
The owner is usually duped into taking a day out somewhere, where they are suspiciously filmed by a family member, talking about how they would love to have their house made over.
Meanwhile, Terri Dwyer is back at their house with a gang of builders and camp designers who have spent a bucket load of money on the makover.
The makoever is said to be completed in 60 minutes and consists of bubbly wallpaper being slapped on rough walls, paint slopped all over the place and a widescreen tv being screwed to the wall. The level of craftsmanship does not appear to be too high as things are bodged together in an hour.
The majority of shows I have seen, leave the house looking improved, but gawdy and impractical.
Craig from big brother usually makes something out of MDF, and a designer lobs in some scatter cushions and a throw.
What really amazes me about this show is the end where they tell you that the makeover, excluding labour cost £25,000!
Daytime TV will always be filled with programmes such as this, but really, what is next?
60 second makoever? featuring a can of petrol and a match?
Summary: Fills an hour
