Advantages: Jimmy Carr and Sean Lock are both funny

Disadvantages: Jason Manford is not very good

WHAT IS IT:
8 Out Of 10 Cats is a comedy panel show made for Channel 4. Jimmy Carr is the show's host and the current team captains are Sean Lock and Jason Manford. In earlier series, Dave Spikey captained what is now Jason Manford's team. Each team consists of a captain and two celebrity guests who are asked a variety of questions about polls and statistics. For example, in the round called 'The Poll with the Hole' team members are asked to guess what salient word or phrase is missing from a statistics such as '57% of women would prefer more________'. The title of the show refers to the advertising slogan '8 out of 10 cats prefer Whiskas'.

GOOD POINTS:
This show is a good vehicle for Jimmy Carr and his style of comedy works very well within the format. There are some great one-liners and cruel putdowns from Carr which are very funny. Sean Lock is also very funny with his laidback sarcasm and occasionally surreal comedy and his more friendly style counterbalances Carr's snide comments. There are often very good guests, many of whom are some of the top stand-up comedians in Britain at the moment. There are also some completely crazy guests like Tara Palmer Tompkinson who provide an easy target for the mockery of the comedians on the panels. The rounds are not too long and provide some interesting statistics.

BAD POINTS:
The format gets a bit dull after a while and the jokes get a bit predictable, when the subject matter relates to women or men you get the same old comments. I don't find Jason Manford very funny and I'm sure there are many comedians who could do his job better. Sometimes it seems like they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for guests when they have people like Trisha or people from reality TV shows who are often more annoying than they are funny.

Summary: A pretty good panel show but not the best
