Advantages: Action Packed. Highly Amusing. Catchphrases & in-jokes galore.
Disadvantages: Over-exagerated engineering abilities. Nobody on this show can shoot straight.
The A-Team is a classic piece of 80's TV. Is is funny, filled with action & mildly violent.
Firstly the premise of the A-team. You are given an idea of why the A-Team do what they do at the start of every episode:
"In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit" The crime being that they stole Gold Bullion from a Bank while under orders from a superior who was killed before he could advise his superiors of their mission.
"These men promptly escaped from a maximum sercurity stockade to the Los Angeles underground."
"Today, still wanted by the Government, they survive as Soldiers of Fortune."
"If you have a problem, if no one else can help, & if you can find them, maybe you can hire The A-Team."
The Show is very formulaic in it's writing. A Standard A-team show will progress roughly like this.
Intro - Distressee is harrased by protaganist, usually resulting in injury to person or property.
Hiring - We see the A-Team, usuauly talking about what they will do for money next & the A-Team get hired by the Distressee in funny circumstances.
Attack - The A-Team make themselves known to the protaganist. Returning the favour & injuring person or property. Also usually securing the necessary equipment to help the distressee maintain their routine, from the protaganist.
Counter Attack - The protaganist. Angry at what just happened escalates the conflict by attacking the distressee & or the A-team. The outcome of this is usually imprisonment of the A-team & abduction of the distressee although it can be the other way around.
Preparation - The A-Team (whilst in a montage format) prepare for the ensuing final conflict. They also do this with whatever is to hand & are capable of building a tank from lolly-pop sticks & bottle tops lol.
Final Conflict - The A-Team use whatever they have prepared deal with the protaganist, resulting in their capture & handing over to authorities. Rescue the distressee & generally save the day.
Epilogue - The A-team say their goodbyes to the distressee & resolve any other interests.
I'm am a huge fan of the A-Team & have every episode on DVD. It really is classic entertaining TV. There is no blood, no gore. All 5 series put together have less deaths than your average week in Albert Square. If you have never seen an episode you should watch one right now!
Summary: Classic comedy / action from the 80's. Great Fun!
