Sue Townsend's excellent schoolboy character Adrian Mole has returned in a new comedy series in his Capuccino Years. I confess as yet I have no idea what is meant by the cappuccino years. I assume it has some meaning but alas it escapes me just yet. Unfortunately you have to say why on earth have they bothered to bring Adrian back. Whilst there was perhaps some interest in whatever became of the youthful lust which Adrian had for his Pandora it might have been more profitable to just announce what happened. To commission a new TV series is only a good idea if you have some new comedy material with which to develop the story. The first signs are not good at ...  Read the complete review

I have not read any of the Adrian Mole diaries, but i've heard that they are exellent books. So when I heard that there was going to be a TV series about him, I decided to watch it. Adrian Mole is a man in his 's, he has two young sons, both of wich have no mothers living with them. They live with his mother, father and younger teenage sister. When the elections for MP's are on, one candidate named Pandora Braithwaite was adrian's childhood sweatheart. If you hadn't read the book, then having watched the TV Series, you would probably be put off reading the book ever, which is a shame as its a very good read. This program just didn't do justice to Sue Townsends brilliant novel. It just wasn't funny. They selected a totally wrong cast to play the characters. Theres not much else I could actually write about this pathetic attempt at a program other than to pose the question: 'Why did they bother?'. Luckily they finished the book in the TV Series so they can't make a follow up series unless they make it up themselves or Sue Townsend writes another novel (and if she does ...  Read the complete review

Why did they bother? They being both Sue Townsend and the BBC. The original book caught the imagination because of the idea of young love, growing pains, the angst of a young teenage boy. Like a good sit com on TV you cannot transport it to another place, in this case 20 years later, and expect it to have the same impact. I gave up on this series very early because I thought it was dreadful. God knows how they managed to get Helen Baxendale involved in it, this is one she will be happy to see erased from her curriculum vitae. The BBC obviously had very high hopes for it as they put it on at prime time on a Friday night. In short, its gone now, lets hope ...  Read the complete review

I hadn’t read any of the Adrian mole diaries at the time I first started watching the new BBC TV series of Adrian mole the cappuccino years. I have so far (as the series is still going), found this series very funny. I really like the way that awful things happen to Adrian mole but some how the series turns these disasters round and makes them seem very humorous. It’s also really good to sit down and watch when you’ve come in from work on a Friday night and have had a really stressful week at work or school or whatever else you’ve been doing. And you sit down watch it have a laugh and think; maybe my life isn’t as bad as ...  Read the complete review
