Advantages: erm? Interesting at first?
Disadvantages: Boring, negative, pre-madonna stars!
WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
Fly on the wall documentaries hit an all time low as we get to follow the day to day running of Heathrow and Gatwick airports. From baggage control to check-in, air hostesses to pilots, it's all here, in this half hour show.
IS IT ANY GOOD:
No! It's not any good. It was OK for a one off, but a whole series? Who watched this thing? You basically get to see an array of angry and let down customers who complain to camp staff (yes I'm thinking of Jeremy, or 'fat Jeremy' as he was known in my house). Complaint after complaint fills the whole show, as you start to believe you could do a better job of running an airport yourself.
Now seriously, it's interesting for a bit, and offers a slightly educational glimpse into the running of a huge business, but it soon gets boring. As if that wasn't enough, many of the airport staff believed they were the next De Niro waiting to be discovered, and lauded it up for the camera (yes, I'm thinking Fat Jeremy again).
Another bad thing about the show was how it never stopped filming: when a bewildred African woman is found guilty of drug trafficking, the cameras kept rolling - give the woman some privacy damn it!
This show must have put so many people off flying anywhere, as it gives you the misguided idea that when you go to the airport you will lose your baggage, be cavity searched for drugs, sit next to a drunk, have your flight delayed, and be told about the delay by a camp fat man wearing glasses!
IN CONCLUSION:
Docu-drama gone mad, Airport is a terrible show that repeats the same content over and over again. If you liked it, you'll probably enjoy programmes that do the same, like 'Big Brother'.
Summary: do not watch!
