Advantages: Great lead actors, gripping storylines

Disadvantages: The first series takes a while to get going

The final series of Alias finished a few years ago but it still remains one of my favourite tv shows and I own all the boxsets. It was created by JJ Abrams, the man behind Lost and Fringe. Alias does not contain as many fantasy elements as those shows, this one is more based in reality but you can expect the same twists and turns that you'd expect from those shows. There are 5 series in total and this is my review of a show that kept me hooked for five years.

Jennifer Garner stars in this television series as Sydney Bristow, a graduate student working for a secret division of the CIA. The mission of this arm of the CIA is to combat SD-6, a secret terrorist organisation whose agents believe that they, in fact, work for a secret organisation of the CIA that combats terrorism. Confused? You get get your head around it after a few episodes! This first season of the series begins as Sydney begins work as a double agent for the CIA, who want to destroy the organisation and its leader, Arvin Sloane. Sent all over the world on various undercover missions, Sydney must sabotage SD-6's efforts while maintaining her cover so that she can help take down SD-6 from the inside.

This is how the first series begins and to be honest the first season did not have been completly hooked but stick with it and it is well worth the commitment! Each episode of the first series plays like a 'mission of the week' episode and you find yourself getting a little bored with it, wanting something more. I think most of the first series was used to establish character and background, maybe they could have spent less episodes doing this but stick with it because from series two onwards this series really takes off! I don't want to reveal any of the twists and turns because that will ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it but expect big story archs, betrayals, double crossing, triple crossing, action, thrills, romance, some very surprising cameos and some very risque costumes warn by Jennifer Garner!

Most of the Alias boxsets on dvd can be picked up between £20-£30 each now, depending on where you shop. Make sure you check out the bloopers on the dvd too because they are hilarious.

This show made me laugh, it made me cry and it had me on the edge of my seat for 5 years, give it a go!

Summary: Great show if you can get past the slower paced first series
