Alistair McGowan's Big ImpressionNewest Review: ... him look like Kilroy and when he is supposed to be David Beckham he could be any shaven headed thick footballer. The next problem is in the script. McGowan is obviously a nice person who wishes to have gentle affectionate portrayals of the people he is 'doing'. In this age of knocking humour where stars are verbally ripped to pieces on shows like 'They Think Its All Over' McGowan just seems too soft. The sketches themselves are not particularly funny. There is too much explanation of what is going on, with characters saying how their voices are changing. McGowans Michael Buerk impression is very good but like the Kilroy one he shouldn't hav... more |

Alistair McGowan first came to prominence on the radio as an impersonator doing sports personalities like Howard Wilkinson, Alex Ferguson and Martin O'Neill. Like many who have found success on the radio he is just not as funny on TV. The one character I especially like is when he mimics Louis Theroux who ... Read the complete review

Ronni Ancona and Alistair Mcgowan have now invaded Friday night's tv viewing giving the BBC some positive competition to fight against Friends on E4 and Brookside. The show is on for half an hour once a week, on Friday nights at 8.30pm BBC1. Impression programmes are few and far between. They aren't as popular as many other types of television. If they were there would be far more of them. Mike Yarwood was one of the best in the 1970s. I had not liked this programme initially, but when I watched the Christmas special, I had to say that it had radically improved and the stars had attained a level of performance and programme content ...
