Advantages: Great hosts, good celebrities, very funny show
Disadvantages: Sometimes a few celebrities I don't know
The board game Mr & Mrs is a favourite of mine to play at any family parties we have creating much fun and laughter yet also many arguments. So when I saw the TV game show All Star Mr & Mrs I was so excited as I was expecting it to be very similar to the board game.
The show originates from the original game show Mr & Mrs which was created by Roy Ward Dickson and aired for over twenty years from 1973. The show was then revived briefly in 1999 hosted by Julian Clarey. All Star Mr & Mrs is the newest version of the game show, which began in 2008, hosted by TV presenters Phillip Schofield and Fern Britton, who are already known from GMTV to be a comical duet and make a great team.
The basis of the show is to test a couple's knowledge and find out how well they really know each other. However, the new version of the show is an 'all star' version where celebrity guests' knowledge is tested. The show has had popular celebrity figures such as Danny Dyer, Ronan Keating and Ulrika Jonsson as well as some other less well-known celebrities, but most are fairly well-known.
The aim of the game is to be the couple who knows each other the best and this couple will then ultimately win a cash prize of up £30,000 to go to a charity of their choice. The more answers they get correct, the more money they win.
The game consists of three rounds and each show has three couples competing against each other. The first round sees the least famous half of the couple sitting in a sound-proof booth whilst the other half is quizzed about the intricate details of their life together. The questions give us an insight into the celebrity couple's life and often provides some very funny answers. Once all the questions have been answered, the other half comes out of the booth and is asked the same questions. Every question that matches up, gains the couple points.
The second round is the best and funniest round where each half stands in a booth separated by a wall so they can't see each other. Each half has two table tennis bats, one blue and one pink. Questions are asked and the couple have to raise the bat representing who they think the question relates to more - blue for the boy, pink for the girl. Questions can be anything from who's the best kisser to which one of you moans the most and the reactions on the faces of some of the couples are so hilarious when they give an answer different to what their other half thinks. This is such an entertaining and funny round that I plan to add it as an extra part in my board game, even though I'm sure it will cause many more arguments!
The scores are then added up and the two couples with the least points are sent home each with a small carriage clock souvenir and £1,000 for a charity of their choice. The winning couple then play the third and final round which is similar to the first round but has the most famous half sitting in the booth this time. Each question they get correct earns them more money.
This is a brilliant, light-hearted and entertaining game show and it's fun to see marriages and love being tested and finding out how well couples really know each other.
The second series of All Star Mr & Mrs is currently shown on Saturday nights on ITV 1 at around 7.30pm and provides some great entertainment.
Summary: Some good entertainment on Saturday nights
