Advantages: It's a great way of wasting an hour of your time by having a few good laughs and it gets better when you know the caracters.

Disadvantages: The whole idea has been taken a bit too far and I think that now the series is plain pathetic.

I absolutely hated her guts after seeing the first episode of Ally McBeal. Really, I couldn't stand her. I thought that the whole series was childish, over exaggerated and though trying to be funny, mostly boring. Her way of seeing things, her visions of things that don't really take place (that is the filming of what takes place in her mind) didn't even capture the slightest reality.

It's weird thinking back of my first reaction, because I started to actually adore Ally McBeal. I don't know what made me change my mind. I just turned on the tv six months later and spent an hour of laughter in front of this pathetic, kind of pretty, far too skinny, hysterical girl.

After many series being made in the law environment, here's one that definately changes the scenes. First of all, nobody works, even though they spend most of their time in the office. I mean they spend their time talking about sex, guys, bitching about girls (all the girls in the office are so jealous...especially of one another even though none of them will actually say it out loud), fliring with the guys in and out of the office...to end up in the bar that's in the same building of the lawfirm.

The sex fanatic, Elaine, the male sex fanatic Richard who goes for older women...and then ends up with Ling (!!!!??????? still don't really get that one), the ugly little cute but extremely bizarre guy...mrs married who's so bloody boring that I don't really get what personality function she's filling in the show, Ally's first love Billy...sort of likable but also boring...and then Ally.

Ally is the hysterical one, romantic one, funny one, bizarre, looney, jealous, desperate, depressed...I think that Ally is everything that a woman can relate too...in a very exaggerated way. That is, you will be able to recognize some of your own shortcomings by observing Ally...and you will laugh when you discover yourself in this sometimes so e
nnoying girl (I call her a girl because she really doesn't act like a woman). It's all been done with an excellent sense of humour (apart from sometimes when it just goes over the top, like the whole episode where the frog gets flushed down the toilet and then dies...a bit too much for my taste).

I think it's fun. But...you shouldn't overdo it. All series always get taken a bit too far and Ally is good until it goes too far. That is when people start dying, when they start changing the actors etc etc.

I don't watch Ally McBeal anymore because it just went too far. But I have enjoyed it a lot!
