Advantages: Makeover week and when they go abroad are always must sees

Disadvantages: The typical sob stories - is there really any need

We're now on cycle 12 of ANTM in the US and the series is thus far (on episode 5) as typical as ever. We have 13 contestants including the black girl from the ghetto, the plus size model, one girl with skin burns and the one with the freaky eyes!
That might sound a little judgemental but these girls are picked for these reasons - you won't go far in reality tv without a background and a sob story!
My favourite episode so far has been when they get their makeovers - haven't they seen the other series!! Don't they know they will have their hair hacked off and dyed the complete opposite of their natural hair colour!
This season is set in NY city which gives some great locations and designers for the show to feature. As usual the prizes are a $100,000 contract with Covergirl cosmetics, a 6 page spread and cover of 17 magazine and a contract with Elite Model Management. The girls compete each week in a challenge (such as a catwalk or a dancing challenge) and a photoshoot before Tyra and the other judges announce in order who is top to who is bottom, before eliminating one contestant each week. However, previous series have seen models walk out, 2 models be fired in 1 week and even no models told to go home, so there can be a bit of variety here.
At the end of episode 5, Celia stood before Tyra at elimination and said that Tahlia did not want to be there and did not deserve to be there. Tyra said this was unfair and if Tahlia did not want to be there she would have told her herself. Doesn't look like Celia will be getting far now!!
Tyra has in previous series been known to scream at models who act in an undeserving way or as if they believe modelling is not a real career. However, she always then disccusses the issue with the other girls - just like on her chat show!!
I love ANTM and am completely addicted. It is great seeing the models develop throughout the series and when they do go sees in their foreign destination (London, Milan, Paris, South Africa and Singapore have previously featured) you can guarantee a few laughs!
Must see TV - although probably only if you are interested in fashion
