American Dad comes courtesy of Seth MacFarlane (Creator of Family Guy) which is way you may sense the same animation and script feel to it, American Dad focuses on Stan the CIA Agent and his family who are

Stan: The loving Father and Husband of the family but his "God bless America" Attitude sometimes gets him into trouble.
Francine: The Mother of the family who enjoys being a housewife but sometimes yearns for more.
Hayley: Who's full name is Hayley Dream Smasher Smith is ultra-liberal and may be a member of the green party, She is usually the rational member of the family
Steve: Steve is the geeky, social outcast who is intelligent but sometimes arrogant and likes to play Dungeons and Dragons with his best friends Toshi, Snot and Barry.
Roger: Roger is the 1600 year old alien from space and has been living with the Smith family for four years.
Klaus: Klaus was a German Olympic skier who brainwaves were changed to that of a goldfish by the CIA to stop him from winning the gold medal. Klaus is also infatuated with Francine, Stan's wife.

Episodes to watch

Meter Maid:
This is one of my favourite episodes when Stan gets community service and has to spend two weeks as a meter maid. For those who know the sequence of the film Goodfellas will notice the similarities.

The Vacation Goo
Another favourite where Francine discovers that all of their family vacations have been artificial memories created by the CIA so that Stan could ditch the family and watch sports, Francine then demands a real vacation. Meanwhile, Roger makes a desperate effort to be the greatest actor who ever lived.

Overall a really funny animated comedy that great to watch.
