American IdolNewest Review: ... really watch the live shows if there's someone i really like from the auditions. I think American Idol has a much higher standard of talent compared to over here but then again it is a much larger country so thats to be expected really. Although American Idol is a great show, i just dont like it as much as X Factor for some reason. I think that is mainly because i tend to have my favourites ... more |

American Idol was created by Simon Fuller and was first aired on June 11th 2002 and is now one of the most popular shows on American TV. American Idol is currently on season 8. Like X Factor, auditions are held nation wide. Thousands of people audition in each city but they all have to go through 2 other auditions before they get to audition in front of the judges. Only about 100-200 people per city actually make it to the judges. If the contestants pass the judges vote then they get to go onto the next round in Hollywood. In Hollywood, the contestants perform again in front of the judges on different days and there would be eliminations each day. ... Read the complete review

I never watched American idol until the last series and was shocked at the talent on there. I have always been a fan of the X Factor and watched it for three consecutive years but when I watched this I was pleasently suprised by the brilliant singers on there. The idea of the show is that people go and audition to be on the show by singing infront of the judges. Every week, contestants sing infront of the three judges and are either sent home or put through to the next round. At the end of the programme, the public vote for the winner of the show. The winner recieves a $1 million record deal and is sometimes given a record deal by Simon Cowell depending on the ... Read the complete review

'Pop Idol' grabbed my attention back in 2001. It wasn't a bad series, and the talent's produced weren't too bad either, but a year later and the US version came along; 'American Idol', putting the UK's Pop Idol to shame. Firstly I feel the talent over in America is much better than over here in the UK - maybe that's just because there are more American's than Brits, and maybe the percentage of talented individuals is actually proportionally represented, though this is getting a bit technical for my liking and a little off the point so back to the review. With better talent, you can expect a much better show and it certainly is just that. 'American ... Read the complete review

American Idol is like an American version of the show X factor, Simon Cowell is the main judge in both and they are both basically talent shows that concentrate on singing talent. The judges are Simon Cowell who is well known for being harsh and sarcastic to the less talented. Paula Abdul, who I think is one of the sweetest judges ever to be on the show and Randy Jackson and new host Kara DioGuardi who I think is quite opinionated and a bit annoying. The show has the auditions for the first few weeks of episodes, these can be really funny in parts when people beleive they can sing even though they sound terrible, they can also be quite interesting ... American Idol is a singing competition in which American contestants audition for a place in the live shows - the culmination of the series, in which 12 hopefuls battle to mark their place in history, and to launch a career in the worldwide entertainment industry. To begin with, the series makes visits to major American cities and here the format resembles X factor, as we are treated to not only the best, but also the worst car-crash auditions, that we all know make such great television. The best are selected and these endure rigorous auditions in Hollywood culminating in the selection of the final 12. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest and in its 8th season, ... Read the complete review
