Advantages: intelligent and fair.

Disadvantages: competitive and focused all his attention on Mel, perhaps losing popularity with others doing so.

I had intended to summarize each 'character' upon their eviction from the Big Brother house, and indeed am doing so still with this article. However, I had fully expected to be giving my opinion on Caroline tonight.

Surprisingly, I feel personally hurt that Andy has gone. As he himself said, It makes you wonder what kind of country this is when the vote kept Caroline and evicted him.

Andy was the one personality that I felt any affinity for, the only one I could identify with to any degree at all. He's articulate and intelligent, a bit of a lad of course, and honest enough to admit that he was playing with the hope of winning.

In that respect, I found him the most honest and genuine of the group. Let's face it, no-one would have volunteered to spend 9 weeks with a bunch of upto ten strangers, locked in and monitored on public access cameras 24 hours a day unless they felt they had a chance to win!

So, somewhat mystified myself, I'll try to examine the reasons for his nomination, and ensuing eviction as best I can.

He was nominated heavily last week too, of course, by mostly the same people. All the girls but Mel really. Could jealousy have played a big part? Well of course it could. All of the girls (possibly excepting Anna) seem to have inflated opinions of themselves. Such attitudes may well not appreciate Andrew ignoring them to focus so entirely upon Mel.

A hint of this can be found in Anna's first nomination of Andy (week 1) when she said he was the one she had interacted with the least. We certainly noted that Caroline was envious, with her constant gossip and attention on the actions of Andy and Mel.

Darren was the deciding vote of course. Why did Darren vote for Andy to be dismissed? Well, could this be the envy thing again? Could be. Perhaps not directly (i.e. Darren being envious of Andy's place in Mels attentions) but indirectly. Many noted the way Andy looked at a
ny other man who got Mel's attention. Did Darren hear about the way Andy had looked at him? If so that could well be a strong factor.

One thing that was mentioned several times around the house was Andy's competitive nature. He hated to lose and this was not appreciated by his fellows in the house.

All the above therefore help explain the nomination very clearly. However the key question is that when the public have a chance to evict either Andy or Caroline, how did Caroline survive again?

Perhaps Andy's rather too candid confessions about his sex-life are the reason. Certainly the nickname Randy Andy has become widely accepted. However is that really shocking in this day and age? How can people even notice Andy's confessions in the light of Nicola and Anna (both confirmed lesbians) and Sada's attempt to win support from them by stating she'd like to give it a go (before she was evicted).

In some ways, perhaps the eviction is not so much about Andy at all. Caroline may be the key reason for the vote here. There is the possibility that Andy was evicted as the only way to keep Caroline in there to torment the others and especially, to row with Craig.

Davina did bring to our attention a huge leafleting campaign that had been staged to vote Andy out. The leaflets pictured Andy and Mel in an embrace and had the headline "Stop them before they go any further" followed by the phone number to vote Andy out.

Whatever you decide the reasons were, the fact remains that Andy is out. He was greeted warmly as befitted a man who played well and exited with great dignity. It was hillarious to watch Caroline jumping for joy at the crowds.

Caroline truly believes that the crowds are cheering for her. After all, the public have prevented her eviction twice now. She feels that you all love her. Boy, is she in for a shock! :-)

Welcome back to the outside world Andy. You played a p
retty straight game and won considerable national affection. With Mel's telephone number, you even have the chance to pick up where you left off within 7 weeks at the most. I hate to think how hard it will be to watch Mel on screen with 4 other guys you don't trust though. But there again, Andy is also on the loose again, with some female fans, and his 13 unused condoms ...
