Does Gene Roddenberry's genious ever end? This imaginative sci-fi series is the utopian society of Star Trek verses the chaos and strange alien races of Star Wars. ************Spoiler Alert************ The main storyline is one of a fallen civilisation (the commonwealth), this alliance spread over many galaxies but was destroyed by a surprise Nietzschean (a genetically altered race of humans) attack. During this attack Dylan Hunt, captain of the Andromeda Ascendant, orders his crew to evacuate while he attempts to destroy some Nietszean ships near a black hole. As I am a massive star trek fan I decided to watch this when it first came out on Sky 1 about a year ago. Gene Roddenbery's scripts vary massivily. Star trek is brilliant but Eath final conflict is rubbish so I was wondering how this one would turn out. Andromada is very good. It isn't as good as star trek but it almost is. Captain Dillan Hunt (Kevin Sorbo) was stuck in time after the Nitchiens (Baddies) started a mutiny. He'd just killed his nitchien first officer but got stuck in the entrance of a black hole which got him stuck in time. About 300 years later, the commonwealth (andromada's federation) was destroyed when the nitchiens destroyed them, ... Read the complete review

As always with American programmes the first series was a set of mainly unrelated episodes (with a number of double episodes) that had a faint link/theme to carry the series. The purpose of these episodes is to give us all an idea of the background behind the series and familiarise ourselves with the characters and the players (the large factions who are normally the bad guys or good guys). Andromeda does this really quite well. We are given tantalising glimpses of what the Systems Commonwealth was before the collapse and the reverence with which it and the High Guard who protected it are held. This leads us on to the hero and his ship, the pride of the High ... Read the complete review

Many of the other reviews on Andromeda seem to be comparing the series to Star Trek before they even get past the title, I however am going to do everything I can to avoid doing that. Andromeda is set centuries into the future in a Universe where a great Alliance of over a million worlds has formed, this union of worlds is called the "Commonwealth of Free Worlds" and it has spread across three galaxies bringing peace and equality to all with the High Guard to defend it. The First episode begins with the Andromeda, a High Guard starship captained by Dylan Hunt(Kevin Sorbo), heading for a star system in answer to a distress signal. But when the ... Andromeda the new Sci-fi show on Sky1, I admit that at times is a bit corny but it has promise, though I find the music very bad and the Captains acting (the guy of Hercules) is awful. However, the show does have good bits too, the computer is cool (both the actress and the idea) as well as the general story. This show you have to watch so you can make your mind up about it, dont think of it as a comedy sci-fi like farscape. ... Read the complete review
