Advantages: A good set up, some interesting facts.
Disadvantages: annoying pompous kids - arrrrggghhhh!
I decided to watch this tonight having seen it advertised a lot on TV recently. The show reminds me a lot of Deal or No Deal with the audience and Noel Edmonds talking away to the camera.
The show basically involves adults playing for money. They are up against a 10 year old who basically knows everything. Contestants can win up to £250,000, however no adult has managed this yet showing that 10 year olds are more intelligent than most of the adults on the show...how embarrassing!
I have watched the show tonight and laughed so much at the poor standard of education amongst some adults. Firstly the gentleman on tonight had no idea what an abstract noun was and thought a pentagon had 8 sides. Luckily the children are on hand to give the answers allowing the contestant to walk away with some money. Almost like Who Wants to be a Millionaire the adults can choose power-ups such as copy, save and peek which will allow them to peek at or copy a child's answer, they can also be saved if they guess a question and get it wrong. I think the cleverest thing about the show is the way the studio is set up to look like a lass with the students behind their desk and the contestants made to look like they are in school. Noel will ask then if they have done their homework and revised for the test which brings it all back to an important topic of education.
I felt quite pleased that I was able to answer all questions, but did feel sorry for the adults who clearly are being thrashed by a 10 year old. That said I doubt I could remember some of the questions if I wasn't helping my cousin with her maths and literacy homework every week, its more about what can you remember at school than how much do you know. I wouldn't be surprised if the kids are told the answers beforehand or at least told what to study so that the show does not have to give too much money away. I don't think learning a subject last week qualifies you for the title of 'smarter than an adult' that said the show does highlight education and how not all kids are out causing trouble. The children on the show speak with 'upper class' accents and are clearly very intelligent. That said I think it is important to reward or at least focus on some of the youngsters around us who are very clever and who are succeeding in school. There does seem to be a lot of bad oppress about youth and underachievement in schools so a show like this does show that not all kids are 'thick' and 'lazy' as the Daily Mail or Mirror would have us believe.
Noel Edmonds is a good presenter but I noticed him make a few bloopers so I am guessing most 10 year olds are smarter than Noel himself. I did enjoy the game show and would probably watch it again that said however I did find a little too similar to Deal or No Deal however this game show includes arrogant kids instead oh and no identically sealed boxes that have been checked by an adjudicator. Like Deal or No Deal I can see a few shows being fun to watch however I doubt it being a long term thing that I would chose to tune in to.
Summary: A game show where kids and adults fight for the title of "whos smartest".
