Newest Review: ... could just schmooze his way round the world, still sticking to the old methods of transports, and be in with a chance of equalling or beating the target. I was even more impressed when he's given the opportunity to take part in a film, just as a walk on, but still he can do all this, AND still make it round the world? Oh but what do we have here? We have a missed connection. Dubai is causing a problem. NOW it gets interesting. In order to meet up in Bombay with one of his most important connections, he has to find a way of getting through the Strait of Hormuz, cross the Persian Gulf and reach India. Fictional hero, Phileas Fogg, circumnavigated the globe in just 80 days. The BBC produced the programme "Around The World in 80 Days" from Palin's filmed records, and it's one of the most enthralling travel shows ever. Split over 8 episodes, this was unmissable viewing. Around The World In 80 Days was Michael Palin's first travel documentary and easily the best. The fact that he had not done this kind of show before coupled with the deadline imposed by Jules Verne's book gave a background of pressure to this series that has not been bettered. Watching Michael struggle with basic travel problems, constantly worrying about the number of remaining days whilst still managing to show us the reality of the country he was visiting was truly entertaining. Definitely one to watch again and again. ...
