Advantages: Good humour good story lines

Disadvantages: A bit dated now

I have just finished watching all the old seasons of Auf wiedersehen,Pet on ITV4, this is the second or in some cases third time I have seen them.
It first aired in 1983 with a thirteen episode series where three bricklayers from Newcastle upon Tyne in England set off for Germany desperate to find work, and to have some fun along the way. They eventually get a job in Düsseldorf, where they meet, and share a hut, with other building workers from across the U.K.
This series chronicles their antics and lives during their six month stay abroad. The series starred the now infamous Jimmy Nail, as 'Oz'. It also starred other famous British names such as Tim Healy (as Dennis), Kevin Whately (as Neville), Timothy Spall (Barry), Christopher Fairbank (as Moxey) and the late Gary Holton (as Wayne) and Pat Roach (as Bomber) who has also sadly passed on.
The second season saw them reunite to help Barry renovate his marital home and work on an country manor house for a very crooked business man whom Denis is in dept to Ally Frazier, this eventually led to them working on his Spanish villa. Sadly Gary Holt died before filming was finished and some of his scenes had to be altered to allow for his absence.
Season 3 was set in the North East of England and Arizona as the team came together for the funeral of Oz who had faked it to reunite the team as he had a plan to take down the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge which they ended up selling to a Native American Indian hence the trip to Arizona
Wayne was replaced by his son Wyman played by Noel Clarke.
The final season saw them working work as subcontractors for the British Embassy, and posted to Havana, where Neville is reluctantly recruited as a spy for the British, Oz falls in love with a local ballet dancer, and Barry finds himself in prison on the edge of a nervous breakdown.
Pat Roach sadly died before a couple of one off specials were made, he was well known as Bomber a name he used during a successful wrestling career and he also appeared in the first three films in the Indiana Jones movies.
It has been great to see all these great shows again, they are somewhat dated now and the later series became a little far fetched (spies and all) but it really took me back as I used to watch them as a kid and back then it seemed very risky because of the humour and language used. I think it shows what a great show it was if you take some time to look at what some of the actors went to do in their careers.

Summary: Always good to watch
