Newest Review: ... for the finish line, its course and direction easily found. Everything about Babylon 5 is meticulously planned and everything pays off. The serialized nature of the story gives the show strength in that everything is all planned out and the direction set. The overlapping story elements only add to deepen the shows mythology. Even more impressive is that the show is capable of changing from one major story element to another without loosing any of it's appeal. The Minbari mystery in Season 1 to the Shadow War to then the formation of ISA. It all works. The characters are all established with rich backgrounds and a fantastic cast behind ... more

Being a huge science fiction fan, I knew the time for me to try Babylon 5 would eventually come. Having ummed and arrred over picking Season 1 up, I finally bit the bullet and purchased the DVD. I haven't looked back since. I grew up with Star Trek and Stargate and Babylon 5 easily surpasses either of those series. Season 1 starts off rocky as the right feel for the show is fine but as soon as Season 2 hits, the show is off and running for the finish line, its course and direction easily found. Everything about Babylon 5 is meticulously planned and everything pays off. The serialized nature of the story gives the show strength in that everything is ... Read the complete review

Babylon 5 was probably the best sci fi ever, the long running story arc made it stand out against such competition as Star Trek with it's tidy ending to every episode. The series long main plot was quite spooky at times with the 2 surviving 'old' races trying to push their own interests onto the 'younger' races in their own way. The Shadows wanted to encourage conflicts between the races so that the strong could take their place at the lead. The Vorlons wanted to increase the spiritual side of the younger races. Eventually the Vorlon/Shadow conflict came to a head in some of the best sci fi ever seen, then as a twist the Vorlons ... Read the complete review

A Sci Fi based on a space station and it's not Star Trek? Surely not! Now, I'm not going to get involved on the Star Trek v Babylon 5 discussion, or which came first. Honest. Babylon 5 is set on a space station called, oddly, Babylon 5. Why 5? Well, as we're told in the pilot, Babylons 1-3 were sabotaged, and 4 vanished without a trace. The story can be split into 5 chapters, and that corresponds neatly to the 5 seasons. Handy that. Season One is the build up - introducing charactors, the "science" of the programme (what is and isn't possible) and does have a few duff (really duff) epiosdes. Bear with it, and ... With the cancellation of Crusade after only 13 episodes, the B5 universe is back - this time the focus is on the Rangers in a TV movie produced by the Sci-Fi Channel. The story will apparently follow the rangers in the struggle to rebuild after the great war. The cast will apparently include G'Kar and other regulars from the original series. The film may lead to a new series. Now wouldn't that be great - a new B5 based series? Its already going to be better than the new startrek: enterprise incarnation... - what's nice is that the producers are in a way thanking all the fans for their support by holding a competition to allow a fan to have their ... Before i comment a quick summary of B5 is required. Its the mid 24th century, late 2256 to be exact and Babylon 5 space station goes on line. Commander Sinclair is the senior commander. Humans are no longer the only race in the universe. There are now several main races : Centuari, Narns, Mimbari, Vorlorns and league of non aligned worlds who act as one race for purposes of voting. The station was built with Mimbari funding part of the cost and the main reason for the station was to create a neutral zone where differences could be settled peaceably. Thats the basic idea. There are so many threads and other factors i'd have to write a book to explain it all. ... Read the complete review
