Advantages: great sci-fi, good characterisation, lots of different avenues to explore
Disadvantages: crusade was cancelled, series 5 was not so good, wooden acting?
With the cancellation of Crusade after only 13 episodes, the B5 universe is back - this time the focus is on the Rangers in a TV movie produced by the Sci-Fi Channel. The story will apparently follow the rangers in the struggle to rebuild after the great war. The cast will apparently include G'Kar and other regulars from the original series. The film may lead to a new series. Now wouldn't that be great - a new B5 based series? Its already going to be better than the new startrek: enterprise incarnation... - what's nice is that the producers are in a way thanking all the fans for their support by holding a competition to allow a fan to have their name in the film as one of the characters.... kind of a nice idea as it was the fans that tried and tried in vain to get Crusade picked up after it was dumped. If, however you cannot wait for the new film or series or being able to get B5 on DVD, then there are always the books - there are some engaging series - Psi Corps trilogy depicting the life of Bester, a well written set, showing another side to the earth side B5. Then there's the centauri trilogy, depicting life on centauri prime after they have been thrown out of the interstellar alliance and the republic is in tatters... both fill in some of the gaps left (intentionally) by the tv series, and i would thoroughly recommend them!

- 18/05/01 Hard to say it will be better than the new startrek incarnation until you've seen both really, I know I'll probably be much more likely to watch the startrek one than this myself. |
