Batman

Newest Review: ... story was in two parts, with the first ending in a cliffhanger, usually with Batman or Robin in perilous danger that they can't seem to escape from, and then the second episode closing out the story. Batman was based on the comic book character of the same name, originally seen in the DC comics. Batman had a wide range of enemies, including the Joker, the Riddler and Catwoman, with Burgess Meredith perhaps standing out in his portrayal of the Penguin. The episodes involved some pacy action musical accompaniment, particularly where there were fight scenes, dodgily choreographed and with word action appearing on the screen such as 'Kapow!'... more

Premium Review 1960s Batman hits hard! (292 words)

As a child, I grew up enjoying a range of reruns on TV as well as a good mix of new programmes. Of my favourutes rerun shows was Batman. Not the cartoon or any of the more modern versions, but the original 1960s TV series, starring Adam West and Burt Ward as superhero Batman and his trusty sidekick Robin the Boy Wonder. The show only aired for two years originally, from 1966 to 1968, thus there are only a limited number of episodes, but to me, they seemed endless, and it didn't matter if I saw one I had already seen before. Each story was in two parts, with the first ending in a cliffhanger, usually with Batman or Robin in perilous danger that they can't seem ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Camp Batman (259 words)

This is the 60's camp version rather than the dark brooding character of the comic and recent cinema fame that bought Batman back into the limelight. The TV show followed a 30 minute two parter format where at the end of episode one Batman often found himself at the mercy of whichever villan he was up against whilst episode two would see him utilise some gadget on the utility belt to escape and then thwart the evil plans of the criminal mater minds although to be honest master mind would be stretching it as they always failed to see through the attempt to kill Batman and his faithful side kick Robin. Adam West took on the rather rotund character of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Batman (736 words)

Could this be the most diabolical bastardisation of the gothic Batman DC comic book character or is it to be treasured as a jewel encrusted time capsule of 1960s television? Starring Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin respectively, Batman originally aired on ABC in America from January 12th, 1966, until March 14th 1968. With two Bat-tastic episodes each week 120 episodes were made in total, each filling a half hour slot. But being a baby of the 80s I grew up on its English teatime reruns, dreaming of a world in which I too could be a Caped Crusader. The Batman series found a formula that worked, and rigidly stuck with it to its own ...  Read the complete review

Deadly Duo....Even more so than Owen And Heskey!!! (834 words)

Batman & Robin…..The Deadly Duo… When you see the words “The Deadly Duo”, you automatically think of Pepperann and Donnaford but neither of them wear outfits like Batman and Robin, although I would love to see either Pepperann or Donna in the Catwoman outfit!! So I remember well the first time my eyes glimpsed a Batman comic, I was still at Primary school and I spotted it on the rack at our local shop. I was taken aback by the strange outfit they both wore and decided to buy the comic just to see who these two people were. That was it I was hooked instantly to the Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder. I did often ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Batman : Animated Series (444 words)

For some reason, the kids link for Batman led me to the Sci-fi section, so I'll just carry on ok? Batman : The Animated Series started in 1992. It was a fresh look for Batman. Having graced our TV screens in the 60s as a happy-go-lucky hero with his POWS and WHAMS, Batman was seen as quite a camp character...... The Tim Burton Movies brought the Dark Knight back to his brooding gothic self. Fortunately, the animated series was closer to the great movies, rather than the rather sadder television series. A very cool,shady-looking batman is portrayed to us. As described in the accompanying book (Batman Animated- about £30) the animation team decided to use ...  Read the complete review
