Advantages: Some good special effects

Disadvantages: Many better similar sci-fi films around

Let's face it, 'Battlestar Galactica' is really no more than an extended first episode of the short-running and rather repetitive TV series. A few human survivors from the big bad robotic badies' attack on their colonies set out to search for their long-lost relatives across the galaxy (on planet Earth). They run into the bad guys again when they have to take on supplies. Cue big space battle, excuse for lots of special effects and huge explosions. The bad guys disappear, only to come back in the next episode of the series.
Cynical, maybe, but that just about sums it up. It's no worse than many other sci-fi films of the same era, but the plot is weak, some of the acting dreadful, and it's oh so predictable.
Passes a wet afternoon, but that's about it.
