You know that show Stars In Their Eyes on Saturday evenings? Well it mught just be me but I'm sure that show has been on since the dawn of time and actually has never been any good, all it does is giev birth the the careers of glorified pub singers on the clubs and cruises circuit. You could also say that it was the pre-cursor for the likes of Pop Idol etc, at least Pop Idol is good for a laugh in the audition stages. Anyway trust MTV to give this kind of concept a youth spin. The show offers fans the chance to become their pop idols by learning the dance steps, wearing the clothes and getting to mimic their star in a reproduction of the artists most popular music video. Naturally the show starts with some cheesy american introduction before we're introduced to some american teen who obviously is taking fandom a little too far. Of course you get the normal over-enthusiastic reaction when the participant hears the news that they've been selected, like it hasn't been pre-rehearsed or anything (sarcastic mode on). Anyway we then go through the tiresome documentary approach as our "star" gets the treatment, goes through the processes of learning how to become their idol and also getting inane comments on how hard it all is. All of this leads up to the shooting of the video, now this video is done shot for shot with the real thing. The look is the same, the production value is high it's just the end result is utterly pointless. If we wanted to see the video then sorry but I want to see the real thing carried off with a certain flair and arrogance that only the likes of J Lo and P Diddy can carry off. Of course the experience is "totally awesome" for those involved. It's just a shame that there isnlt a Simon Cowell type character to come in and say that they're wasting their time. Recently you had two youngsters taking on P Diddy and Usher, I can't help but feel they got the mickey taken out of them aft
erwards for really not knowing any better. Becoming is one of those MTV shows that show they really should stick to music videos and stuff like The Osbournes, give me Cribs anyday. At least eith that you can be incredibly nosey and explore your fantasies of living in a plush pad in the privacy of your own home.
