Advantages: great people watching, funny, entertaining
Disadvantages: some tasks (ie heaven/hell divide) go on too long
I'm frequently ridiculed by my friends for watching Big Brother but I really find it fascinating. I didn't start watching until BB3 and then only on and off but each year since I've found myself eagerly anticipating the new series. Sad? Yes, probably, but I like it!
This year the contestants are of course even more task aware than last year, each year it gets harder and harder for BB to surprise or shock them as they've all watched the previous series so they know the kind of things to expect.
The housemates range from ultra dull (Rachel and Maysoon) to seriously annoying (Kat, Mo, Darnell) and lots of different characters in between. Mario's constant health & safety chats used to make me laugh even though most people found them annoying, Alex's completely over the top temper infuriated me and Mo's greediness just makes me want to starve him! But that's what it's all about, provoking a reaction.
It's people-watching at it's best, I only wish this year they'd now stop the heaven/hell divide as it's a tired formula after a few weeks of the same.
This week there are 8 housemates up for eviction and hopefully the public will choose someone annoying or dull to go and not make the mistake of losing such gems as Luke (hilarious "no Rebecca no") or Rex (great for winding the others up "3 restaurants, not 2, 3").
Big Brother is a great watch, it's still got lots to offer and there's always going to be something about it that entertains any viewers. I personally find the Friday night evictions compulsory viewing and Davina McCall will always be the queen of Big Brother.
I wish they'd give them more alcohol and parties this year though, liven them all up a bit!
Update.
So this years Big Brother has come to an end and do you know what? I am astounded the dullest person in the entire house has won and walked away with £100,000. She did nothing except behave like the primary school teacher she is and never once had an opinion. Darnell came in 5th place, he would have done alot better had he not called Sarah a slut a couple of weeks before, no-one likes a bully.
Rex next in 4th, he has been an entertaining housemate because of his arrogance and the fact he speaks his mind but he too had an episode of bullying Sarah and of course the terrible decision to bring his childishly irritating girlfriend Nicole in for a short period did him no favours either.
Then Sarah herself in third place, I was disappointed with this as she had been consistently entertaining the whole way through and never once had a personality waver that some of the housemates have but at least she won £25,000 in a previous episode.
So we were left with Rachel, dull as dishwater and Mikey, always going to be in the final because he's blind (I predicted on day one he would be, just as I predicted on day one Pete with Tourettes would be too) but he's actually a grumpy, obnoxious bloke who isn't very likeable. I admit I didn't bother to watch the last 2 evictions in any detail, I fast-forwarded through most of it because out of the two of them I couldn't care less who won.
A very disappointing finish to the series.
Summary: Very entertaining program
