Advantages: being humiliated on Tv...i dont think it has any.

Disadvantages: poorly represents the housemates and the country they reside in

Big brother is a show on channel four.
Its name derives from a book by George Orwell, entitled 1984. Which is a book that predicts how the author thinks life will be like in 1984. The title was gained by the reversal of the year of him writing it, 1948.
In this book Orwell tells us that one day we will be constantly watched, or to the same effect. Obviously a producer thought that a reality show that is full of random people being watched 24/7 fits that description, and so the show was named.

I'm afraid, that unlike many other reviewers before me, I will not comment on any specific people or events. After all, I will be reviewing big brother in general, not one person from it. However i am a resident of the UK and for this reason will base the review on what i have seen from the UK's program.

The first thing I want to comment on is the amount of cameras situated inside the house, there is a considerable amount and they all record continuously, but hey...wait a minute. We do not see everything, instead we see what the producers want us to see, and if they don't want us seeing it then it either won't be aired or will be muted so we cannot hear what's going on.
I'm afraid that Big Brother is not reality television at all; in fact it's far from. The housemates themselves are portrayed incorrectly and only the footage of them that the producer thinks will get good reviews is shown. An example would be all the rows, bickering and arguments that are aired, it's not all that happens in the house. There are those solemn moments when the house is in peace, everyone getting along but they are simply not shown.

One thing that really annoys me about Big Brother is the fact that these people on TV are residents of the UK, but yet are shown to do indecent things, or act in a way other than the norm. Other countries viewing our big brother would think we are entire lunatics, ok their country may have their own form of Big Brother; which is highly likely, but do we have to show such foul behavior to the rest of the world? As if this isn't bad enough, on the odd occasion the house mates are given ridiculous tasks which make them, and the British nation, look profoundly stupid.

As you have probably realized by now, I am not a fan of big brother. I believe that above all else it portrays the British nation in a terrible way, a sick game to see who can act the most unusual to stay in the house. Is it not a breach of the housemate's human rights? To be aired and made to do such stupid things?

All I can say is that I hope Orwell thought wrongly of the future, because if the whole world turns into a bigger version of big brother, existence would be unbearable and pointless.

Summary: A program worth missing.......even if it could save your life. which it won't.
