Advantages: Used to be fun
Disadvantages: Too many people wanting fame after the experience
Another year and another Big Brother! I promise myself every year that I will just watch the launch night to see what wannabes have gone in this time, every year I get addicted to watching the whole series. I always feel that big brother is either a thing that if you don't watch it then everyone at work is talking about it. And when you do watch it absolutely no one is interested.
So for those of you that don't know what it is (not likely that there is many of you!) It's a reality TV programme that first launched on 14th July 2000 and ran for 9 weeks. Over the years the length of time contestants stay has lengthened and also the amount of contestants taking part has risen for 2009 there is 16 (non) housemates and it will be running for 13 weeks.
The contestants have to live in a house and be filmed 24/7 living with strangers. Over the weeks a contestant is voted out by the public after being put up for nomination either by housemates, breaking the rules or losing a task. On the final night the winner is chosen who wins a large sum of money (as well as magazine deals!)
So Big Brother 10 has come to our screens and maybe it's a really bad year or maybe I've finally snapped out of the big brother spell? Whatever the reason I am just not interested in seeing people talk about other people behind their backs and the petty arguements. It's a shame it's not as good as it used to be with innocent people just having fun. Everything seems to be focused on arguements instead of focusing on romances. Any romance in the house nowadays seems to be for more publicity.
I always ask myself the same question every year - Would I ever be tempted to go into the big brother house? My answer has always been the same......NO. This is for many reasons including the cameras watching all the time, the people you would be living with and most of all the boredom.
I find it hard sitting at home all day without doing anything. Never mind sitting in a house that you can't escape, carrying out embarrassing tasks just for entertainment. But the funniest thing about this year is how far they will go to become a 'proper' housemate. They will change their name by deed poll to halfwit!?
Once upon a time I was addicted to Big Brother and my favourite housemates are as follows:
5 - Nikki Grahame - Yes she was completely annoying in the house, but I think her rants and crying made her a great housemate. She was also quite sweet as she was innocent and didn't get all the jokes that were made in the house.
4 - Craig Phillips - There must be something very special about Craig for winning the first ever UK Big Brother. Really he is just a normal guy you meet on the street trying to do all he can to help his friends. My heart melted when I heard he was giving all his winnings to a friend to pay for her heart and lung transplant.
3 - Sam and Amanda - Is it just me that thought these two were so loveable? Up for fun all the time and loving anything girly they were fantastic housemates. They didn't like fighting in the house and were just in the house to enjoy themselves. Still think they should have won that year!
2 - Pete Bennet - I will be the first to admit on first impressions I wasn't impressed, this was all to do with myself not being aware of Tourette syndrome. Once watching him it really opened my eyes to something that would be seen as 'strange behaviour' and was actually educational for many people watching. He had a wonderful personality and had a wonderful sensitive side. Loved him!!
1 - Brian Dowling - My favourite ever housemate. Purely because he made me laugh throughout the whole series. He was witty and to an extent he could be bitchy but that's why I loved him. Always completely honest but he also had a sensitive side. It also helps that he is good looking! :)
I did try to write 10 housemates but to be honest I couldn't think of 10 that have really made any impact on my life through viewing this (can't even remember most of their names!)
So finally I have made a decision by writing this review I am going to make the most out of my summer and stop watching the time wasting tv programme that never makes any difference to me or my life.
Summary: It's like Marmite - you love it or hate it
